There's only a thumbs up option, so where are the other inputs coming from in the ratings?

Thought maybe it would start making some sense after awhile, but doesn't seem to make any sense at all.

I know. It doesn’t make much sense to me either - it seems like a good idea, but all the threads except the one announcing the rating system get 1-2 stars! WTF?! ;)
