Glad we went there for our 10th instead of our 13th anniversary but given the part of town that our friends who live there took us to, the same could have happened to us. 4th world. The Astroknott wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 12:52 pmThe DR is having a bad week.... add the suspicious death of Americans and it gets crazy

Re: Ortiz shot in the back in the DR
Any theories as to motive in this freak show of a story about Big Papi? Who the heck benefits from ordering an 8K hit on a beloved DR sports star? The only thing that comes to mind is that he may have crossed someone in a business deal or it is someone who would get a payday if Ortiz was assassinated. Nothing else makes any frickin' sense. The guy has done tons for the DR through his charities, where would his enemies come from?
In 2007, Ortiz founded the David Ortiz Children's Fund to support a range of his favorite causes and to help children, from Boston to the Dominican Republic and beyond. In 2008, Ortiz allowed his likeness to be used on a charity wine label, called Vintage Papi, with proceeds going to the Children's Fund. In 2016, Ortiz joined UNICEF Kid Power as a brand ambassador Kid Power Champion for a global mission in Burkina Faso. A 2017 roast of Ortiz raised $335,000 for his Children's Fund.

That's what I was wondering. Maybe he was fooling around with some crime boss' woman. There's a lot more to this story.

This is just baffling. Who in the world would take only $8,000 to not only kill David Ortiz, but do it in the Dominican Republic in front of a bunch of witnesses and fans who would lynch him (and to a degree did to the getaway driver), and with at least a 99 percent chance of getting caught? Somebody actually thought he was going to do the hit, escape, that all the witnesses would forget what he looked like, get his measly $8,000 and just live happily ever after. You've got to be beneath Gump-level stupid to take a job like that.

Couple other things are weird also:
Multiple persons have been arrested in the hit. So why did they just send one guy into the club to do the shooting? You would think that with half a dozen scumbags nearby who were involved, they would have sent in a couple gunmen.
Also the guy who did the shooting completely got the drop on Ortiz, snuck up behind him and fired point-blank. Only John Wilkes Booth got closer to his target. And instead of firing multiple times, he fires ONE single shot into Big Papi's meaty back and one other shot into the TV guy and then runs. No head shot, no double-tap, just a poorly-aimed point-blank shot from two feet away. Guess the guy who ordered this hit is going to get busted real quickly; he hired idiots to do the job. Lucky for Ortiz...

The story gets complicated crazy
According to the shooter. Ortiz wasn’t the target...........
Sounds like an excuse for a cornered outlaw..Ortiz is lucky to have lived through this

Never been there...It always sounded appealing..... Not sure anything south of the border is appealing anymore. Saw a small news story on the supposed mini bars in one of the hotels....It had full size bottles of liquor....geez you pay for how much you drink....can’t imagine anyone adding liquids to the bottle to keep from getting charged.....D-train wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 1:28 pmGlad we went there for our 10th instead of our 13th anniversary but given the part of town that our friends who live there took us to, the same could have happened to us. 4th world. The Astroknott wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 12:52 pmThe DR is having a bad week.... add the suspicious death of Americans and it gets crazy

In the Caribbean, I have been to the DR, Jamaica and St. Lucia. St. Lucia was our favorite by far.

Once stayed at Anse Chastenet on St. Lucia. Could view one of the pitons from the bathroom while on the toilet. Now that's luxury! The Astroknott wrote: ↑Sat Jun 15, 2019 12:01 amWe are wanting to do a cruise that direction this winter. I will search for a port that includes st Lucia
