Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
I can only see them non-tendering Torrens, Toro and Lewis. Borucki pitched well and throws hard from the left side. Unless they have big plans for the lefty spot, they'll tender him

I thought was bizarre too give the situation.Vogelbomb wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 6:28 pmI can't fathom why Divish thinks $6m spread between two very good high-leverage arms is too much to spend. And $1m is too much for a utility player? If the M's like the players, they are going to spend the money. This is not a franchise that pinches pennies. I fully expect payroll to surpass $200m if not in 2023, then in 2024. (at least get to 190-200 marker)
I just don't see the team suddenly thinking Castillo isn't worth $3-4m for what he provides them.

And he doesn't even mention Lewis?
Divish can be hard to understand sometimes.

Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
Also thought this was odd. Frazier is also eligible. Obviously insane to QO him but he is eligible.
Of the Mariners five free agents, only Haniger fits the criteria for being eligible for a qualifying offer.

Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
I'd say to nontender Torrens and Sadler/Borucki. It's more a matter of 40 man roster space.

Beat reporter Corey Brock's prediction at The Athletic:
https://theathletic.com/3761588/2022/11 ... -signings/Seattle Mariners
The youthful Mariners sign José Abreu to a two-year deal. Sure, he’ll be 36 in January and his power dropped in 2022, but he still had a 3.9 fWAR and his influence will benefit his teammates. A middle-of-the-order bat, Abreu will help lengthen this lineup immensely. -Corey Brock
Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
He actually only DHed 29 times and had good defensive metrics so maybe he and France can do a 50/50 job share at 1B/DH or 60/40 or who cares what it is.harmony wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 8:04 pmBeat reporter Corey Brock's prediction at The Athletic:https://theathletic.com/3761588/2022/11 ... -signings/Seattle Mariners

1B defense. Jose is 6th and France 10th of 18. Walker 1st. Now I know why BPJ has the hots for him. 1st base defense!!!

A prediction from Toronto beat reporter Kaitlyn McGrath:
https://theathletic.com/3761588/2022/11 ... -signings/Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays will trade Teoscar Hernández. One suggested flaw of the Blue Jays is that they’re too right-handed and while hitting righties wasn’t an issue — actually, hitting left-handers was — having a predominantly aggressive, right-handed lineup might make them too easy to game plan against. Hernández is one of the most dangerous power hitters in the game but he’s a year away from free agency and now might be the time for the Blue Jays to move him to create space for a left-handed outfielder who might offer different skills than he does. The Seattle Mariners, who need offense and have some starting pitchers to spare, could be a good trading partner. -Kaitlyn McGrath
