Re: Who should be back...
You know I was watching a pod cast yesterday with two young Mariners fans called "The Marine Layer" or something like that....
They brought up an interesting point.
Stanton only has a 48 percent interest in the team.
He is the CEO or the front man for the collective ownership group. Spokesman/whatever.
I believe the majority stake owner is actually Chris Larson?
Feel free to correct me on that if I'm wrong.
So....even if Stanton is a real baseball fan and wants to spend money he is not the ultimate decision maker.
He must have approval from the ownship majority. AND....if they don't agree with his choices he will NOT throw them under the bus.
Now is he a cheap bastard? From his comments and reputation I personally believe so.
But he does come to all of the games. That shows interest at least in the game and the team.
When do we ever hear anything from Larson???? Never! Just saying.
This team is a mess from the top down.
imho....break the freakin bank for Soto. If not, pursue the idea of Guerrero at first. Pickup someone like a Matt Chapman/Bellinger/3rd baseman. Acquire a backup catcher with pop. Bullpen will recover when Santos and Brash are back. Young pitching will only be better next year. But time is running out on keeping that group together.

That makes me sad, D-T. I always enjoy your predictions.

Dedicate yourself to rocketship building this winter.

Where did you get that? I don't have any idea who owns what terms of team but im curious. I dont think its an issue of stanton being cheap, or reaping profits. I do think they take a conservative approach. For all the compaining about the japanese ownership it was probably less risk adverseseattlefan-daBronx wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 3:26 pmYou know I was watching a pod cast yesterday with two young Mariners fans called "The Marine Layer" or something like that....

Re: Who should be back...
There are over TWENTY owners. No chance Larson who had financial troubles about a decade ago is a majority owner.

Where are you getting percentages or number of owners?Nintendo of America sells the majority of its interest in the Seattle Mariners to the current ownership group, First Avenue Entertainment LLLP, retaining a 10% stake in the team. CEO Howard Lincoln retires from day-to-day operations, with John Stanton replacing him as the Chairman and CEO, and the designated Major League Baseball Control Person.

I don't know if they believe Garver will rebound next year, but I'm kind of for cutting all the dead weight and starting over. We can't afford more .580 OPS hitters.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 4:19 amWhy cut Garver just to have to sign another backup catcher?
Bench: Dylan Moore, Ryan Bliss, M's sign a backup catcher.
DFA Haniger and Garver, non-tender Josh Rojas. Put Canzone in the minors or trade him.
