Lookout Landing has a piece out comparing Stanton with Middleton (Phillies). It pretty much tells the tale. Stanton talked about sustainability while Middleton said his guys tell what is needed to win it all and it is his job to make it happen

Stanton and Jerry pretend that they are the fans Moms and Dads and know better than they do what is best for them.

When a kid gets $100 from grandma for Christmas and wants to blow it on video games but Mom and Dad say he should put it in the college fund. No fan wants sustainable mediocrity under the Christmas tree but Jerry and John tell them they do because it is more profitable for them just like Mom and Dad not having to pay so much for the kid's college tuition.

Funny to watch the Padres and Mets in the playoffs after all the lol'ing about their payrolls and not making it one year.

Particularly the Mets, all the talk about them going into rebuild mode, The Mets aren't going to rebuild anymore than the Yankees rebuild. They are going to reload.

It's interesting to me to me to dig into the concept of rebuilding. Fans have been conditioned to accept seasons of slashed payrolls and losing for a blessing of wins in the future someday. I think a lot of it is pretty much a scam MLB has been able to sell fans to keep their payrolls down. The mariners used it effectively

Not only that they lied about using the savings to go all in once they were ready. Complete fucking lie. Seems kind of greedy too.

I still can't believe our fanbase bought their line that they "reinvested it into a half-billion dollars for Julio", even though his pay will be included in every payroll for the next like 40 years, and then they'll still work within the same payroll they would've had anyways, just like this season.
