Rooker has a .860 OPS in August.
Which means what, if they had managed to trade for him the mariners are leading the division?
It means they were not willing to trade for the best hitter available. There is ZERO chance Rooker was untouchable. Here is a good tweet on the topic. This guy predicted exactly what happened on July 19th.

And they should have? We trade whatever it takes to get Rooker and what, add two wins? Which would be an incredible return. What does that get us?

They had a one game lead at the deadline. We have no idea the impact he would have had both with his bat and the with the team knowing that they finally got an impact bat AND we would have him through 2027.

Please, the mariners have been characterized as among MLB most aggresive teams at the deadline and they have fallen flat on their faces, adding Rooker changes all that? Terms of the future we are firing everybody, let the new addministration build their roster

Nothing he is gonna keep everyone around and have another disaster next season. Something should happen but is Jerry or Stanton smart enough.

When they made the decision they didn't know they were going to fall flat on their face so that is total hindsight and maybe they wouldn't have, we shall never know. What we do know is they prospect hugged (Prospects that all have some sort of flaw) and they did fall flat on their face and now need to suffer the consequences.

And Mitch Haniger had 39 homeruns in 2021.

Neither are outperforming Dylan Moore in 2024.

That's not saying Dylan is awesome. It's saying neither are Arozarena or Haniger.
Maybe I was giving Arozarena too much credit saying he was better than Dylan Moore.

Since 8/1-

I wasnt trying to argue Arozarena was awesome. It seemed an interesting acomplishment. Doesnt mean he reproduces it. I wouldnt put much wreight in a guy being clutch in the playoffs, though 10 homeruns in 20 games is pretty impressive
I just pulled up one of my posts to quote, but was more in response to big pharma's message than yours.

IKF before trade 115 OPS+
IKF after trade to Pit 115 OPS+

He got to our pitcher a few times this series. And he made a good target both in the short term and for next year. Remember he can play catcher to. But with JP out and Rojas struggling after the hot start there was a need for some help at 2B,SS, 3B, and maybe even back-up C

He was traded for a good prospect a 2B/3B/OF who is a good hitter in the minors and has advanced to AA. (better than a .900 OPS in the MILB and is just at age 22).

Rivas has had some moments but is still at a 75 OPS+. Even when JP comes back there would still be ABS at Back up C, SS, 2B, 3B, 1B.

Any improvement matters.

Oh and the Reds got Amed Rosario who could have also helped the M's out via waiver claim.

I don't know why though the Reds are out of it, or are they going for it with what they got? The Reds are 6 games out in both the division and the WC.
vs.
The M's 4 out of the division, and 5.5 in the WC. (But only 1 team that is between the M's and the last WC vs 4 with the Reds.)

The Reds did a good job of improving on the cheap.

Oh, and BTW Robbie Ray has a 6 ERA in 5 starts.

That trade is looking OK.
