OMG check out Austin Wilson's last season. Dude was 6'4" 250lbs and went 129 PAs without an extra base hit. Good for a .168 SLG% and a .401 OPS. And Jack Z drafted him in the second round just like he did with Gareth Morgan who have more K's than Nolan Ryan.

Theory:

In the draft Dipoto was trying to create tremendous depth behind his pitching- knowing he needs to hold on to his position player prospects- because, say, Logan Gilbert had become valuable enough to trade to fill a current void.

The guys Dipoto drafted are probably closer to MLB than Gilbert anyways.

In my opinion, Gilbert just became a valuable piece in the type of trade that Dipoto has actually created his own precedent in the Tank O'Neill for Marco Gonzales trade.

Gilbert would bring us another Haniger/Gonzales level player that may be blocked in their organization- as Gilbert may be, now, in ours.

How do you figure they are more MLB ready than Gilbert? He's already tearing it up in high A and should be in Arkansas by the end of the season. He has the highest ceiling of any of the pitchers in the M's system imo.

You must be confused. Gilbert played at Stetson. Maybe you are thinking Carlson? Carlson doesn't have much value having never pitched pro ball and coming off TJ surgery.

Man you don't know how many times I've thought about changing it. I even tried going with BenDavis4ever. In fact that's the only reason Rick Rizzs and I are even friends to this day is because Ben Davis and I share the same name and we spent a night then a week hanging out with the wives down and friends down at Spring Training. Now everytime at Fanfest or wherever, he's like hey Ben!! He called me out at a game sitting next to Blowers when I was down on the concourse. So cool!!!

They picked 2 pitchers that had surgery. Their 59th overall pick had surgery in both hips and the 76th overall pick had bone spurs - hopefully they didn't miss anything on the medicals.

I think that qualifies for your "High risk- High reward" types you were banging the drum for. You sure you dont have a wire tapped into our War Room?

I was thinking the tools vs polish trade off, not medical risks, lol. Hopefully they are healthy.

I loved day 1 picks. 3 college big tall guys that all have 60 FB maybe a little more and then good control numbers, they all hold the caveats that all draft picks have. Health, development, etc.

Day 2, Not so much.

The 3rd baseman does have a Kyle Seager comp.
Scouts who like Shenton and think the guy they saw in the Cape is who he is see a little Kyle Seager in him, though his slow start may have turned some teams off. This might be an opportunity for a team to buy low on a college bat on Day 2 of the Draft.
