Lou Gerhig also comes to mind.
I would take Wally Pipp numbers at this point.

Yeah, but when the guys in front of you have names like Altuve and Bregman, you get your chance elesewhere, like Toro did.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 09, 2021 10:44 pmThe history of professional sports is literally full of all time greats that got their first taste of things as injury replacements and never looked back. Can't really argue it's due to regular playing time. It only became regular after he did it for awhile and he was better right from the beginning. Regular playing time would seem more like an upward trajectory of improvement.
I think it have to be coincidence, he says he been working on stuff, his leg kick, things clicked. I do give him credit for staying focused. Even if getting traded benifited him still had to be a pain in the ass, lot distractions. Makes the scouts look good

"Regular playing time" when you have Altuve, Bregman, Gurriel, etc. ahead of you and you're an injury replacement is a lot different than his situation in Seattle.
He went from fully blocked to wide open spaces and he's running like a pony.
I can't imagine it's easy psychologically knowing you'd have to outplay those guys during your chance. How likely would it be that Toro played his way to a starting role on the Astros? He knew that as well as anybody.

Toro was already getting hot before the trade. He had home runs in his last two games as an Astro as well as his first two as a Mariner. There just isn't enough information to conclude why he started hitting 15 games ago. It could be random, although his line drive % and FB/GB ratio both increased significantly between Hou and Sea this season. I don't think the line drive % is the reason because he had a similar LD%with slightly lower avg exit velocity in 2020 and his batting numbers were terrible. So it woyld seem that he is getting more singles and doubles as a result of elevating the ball more, while his HR rate has only improved slightly (4.9% to 6% between teams this season).

In June he hit 0.297 which is good, slow start in July before heating upSibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 3:03 amToro was already getting hot before the trade.
