Stanek in the pen or Matt Chapman at 3rd would be icing on the cake for me. Decent offseason based on the limited funds they had to work with.
Mariners acquire Jorge Polanco from the Twins!!!!!

I don't know, wouldn't want to block Kowar or Vargas!Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 5:02 amWhat if we still GET Stanek?!seattlefan-daBronx wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 11:14 pmWelp. Scratch that. We got Santos.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 10:25 pm

I think Woo provides a good example of how Prelander might have fared in the Bigs.
Woo
Ark: 2.05 ERA 0.89 WHIP 12.1 Ks per 9 2.5 BBs per 9
SEA: 4.21 ERA 1.21 WHIP 9.5 Ks per 9 3.2 BBs per 9
Berroa:
Ark: 2.89 ERA 1.29 WHIP 13.9 Ks per 9 5.4 BBs per 9
SEA: ? but walk 3 guys in only 1.2 innings
Santos
CHI: 3.39 ERA 1.29 WHIP 9.0 Ks per 9 2.3 BBs per 9
So Berroa's ERA probably jumps to about 5, his WHIP goes to about 1.5 and Ks per 9 down to about 10.

Jerry sounded optimistic about getting something out of Vargas, Buttrey, and Krehbiel. He said that we are always able to establish something every year and thinks we will again.D-train wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 12:13 pmI don't know, wouldn't want to block Kowar or Vargas!

Had some decent years in Boston, but that was all pre 2020.
Re: Mariners acquire Jorge Polanco from the Twins!!!!!
He had a great season in 2023! Faced 4 hitters and struck 2, walked one and must have got the 4th to GIDP!

According to rival general managers, no team has improved its offense more this offseason than the Seattle Mariners.
That report came from Bob Nightengale of USA Today:
-GMs say that no team improved their offense more this winter than the Seattle Mariners with their acquisitions of Jorge Polanco, Mitch Garver, Mitch Haniger and Luke Raley.
The Mariners deserve credit for being creative in how they've handled the offseason. Seattle appears to have been working on a budget as a result of television revenue issues and hasn't been a big player in free agency, but they have worked to help their offense through trades.

Agree 110%!!!!! A+ this offseason. And I was very critical of them at the beginning. Even my wife was like, "oh so you like them now again?!"Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 6:48 pmAccording to rival general managers, no team has improved its offense more this offseason than the Seattle Mariners.

Yeah, see how it flies but they did a nice job of reworking the roster without going into free agency
Re: Mariners acquire Jorge Polanco from the Twins!!!!!
They've shuffled the deck chairs more than most teams, that's for sure.
Probably has as much to do with it being a stagnant market with few impact players available, because it hasn't been much of an improvement on paper.
If we could count on the new guys replacing the guys that left it would be one thing. But they replaced them with bigger question marks imo.
Garver.. Raley.. Haniger.. Polanco
Not one of them you can count on to actually produce.
