M's could have drafted Lane Thomas in the 5th round in 2014 but thought Dan Altavilla was the way to go. lol

If you didn't like some of the runs Kelenic went on... go ahead and look at Lan Thomas in 2020 and the first half of 2021.

2020: 4 for 40, .450 OPS.

2021: 5 for 58, .384 OPS.

He's figuring it out now but we would have wanted him long gone from the M's after those runs.

Yeah I was noticing he has had a very choppy career. Probably due to be T Mobiled to the tune of a 627 OPS next season but like I said I would be happy to give up Harry for him. Certainly wouldn't give up any of our starters for him other than Hancock.

Jesus, Marte is hitting .333 with a .935 OPS in July in AAA and isn't even 22 yo. He will be a Sept call up.

Still don’t like trading him for Castillo. He’s exactly what the mariners need. He could play 2B for a year, then take over for Geno at 3B. Meanwhile we are trying to figure out which starter we trade for a player who won’t be near as good as Marte.

I mean I guess. But we would still be looking for a starter regardless and Marte still wouldn’t be here.

Castillo is a great pitcher and they got him on a cheap contract. I can’t complain.

I don’t think the mariners reach the playoffs anyways, and it’s easier to find a short term starter in FA than a player like Marte. This was also before the tray and Gonzales injuries and in this scenario, I would bet they draft a college pitcher in the first 2 rounds of the draft this year.

Well we don't know "what a player like Marte" is yet. You can be all the top prospect in the world but that doesn't mean you're going to come up and produce at a level like Castillo can.

His .820 OPS in AA and drops in prospect rankings leave a bit to be desired on the sure thing front.

We’ll just have to wait and see. He’s steadily improved in every league he’s been in, and I like his low K rate. I think he’ll be a really good MLB hitter

Agreed. I loved getting Castillo, but knowing what I know now, would never have made that trade. Although Castillo did get us to the playoffs. And even though our W-L differential isn't that good with him, run support is never a pitcher's fault. We should've easily won at least half of his losses.

Not going to wring my hands prematurely over a player who is still in the minors. Castillo has already given us 3.1 WAR in less than a full season worth of starts and who knows how long it will take Marte to pan out at the MLB level (if ever). Kelenic hit .320 with an OPS over 1.000 as a 21 year old in AAA.
