ALDS Game 3 between the Blue Jays and Yankees will air at 8 pm ET on FS1.



Can somebody explain to the foreigner what "the game will begin in a delay" actually means.

Someone who has a reasonable grasp of English might be tempted to say the game has not started.

Language barrier or a technicality about what this means for the status of the game eg whether the teams can make changes to their lineups etc?

I was wondering if the terminology has a specific meaning? So if they couldn’t play tonight, do they have to start tomorrow with the same lineups or can they change the starters?

A game cannot “start in delay” - it’s simply not started. Seems a very clumsy way of using the beautfiul language .. unless by defining the situation it creates a specific protocol regarding the official status of the game.

How about saying it is delayed due inclement weather instead of because of rain. 5 syllables in stead of 1.
