Personally I think the problem with the team this season was that the players all knew the team wasn't as good as last year.

The pressure was all on Cal and Julio to be MOTO bats.

They withered in the spotlight like a slug in salt.

Dipoto pumped the brakes when he should have hit the gas.

Got average players when we needed a couple players to put us over the top.

Failed miserably.

Cal was injured from before opening day and major league pitchers did what they do and exploited the fuck out of it. Julio, however, continues to be a disappointment though I do think you have to take the concussion into account. If you look at this monthly splits, there's a stark difference in before vs. after. But, it wasn't like he was tearing up the league in April, May, and June either.

They're not players Dipoto should have been comfortable penciling in as our MOTO bats.

Even at 60 HR's Cal didn't have a very good OPS. What did Dipoto think was going to happen...

Cal and Julio at 5/6 could be a great team. With them at 3/4, the team's going to be average at best.

Same reason I (and many others) guessed fewer wins this season in the Win Prediction Contest than they finished with last season.

A .948 OPS isn't very good? He was 4th in baseball. I don't think he will ever repeat 2025 but he is absolutely a middle of the order bat if when healthy.

So we're going with "not healthy" as the excuse for his first half?

If last year was the player Cal really is he would be fine in the middle of the order, yeah. But, no, a .948 OPS when you had 60 HR's isn't a very good sign.

He obviously didn't back it up, so I sure as eff wouldn't pencil him in there next season.
