I know this has been said before, but I just read this on mlb.com...the Yankees appear to be "in" on Matt Olson.

https://www.mlb.com/news/yankees-rumors ... d-signings

Look, the Yankees are in on just about anyone they can buy, borrow or steal, and this story isn't groundbreaking. But the Yankees have the 19th best (or 11th worst depending on whether you're a glass half empty kind of person) farm system in MLB. They have been willing to deal away young talent like they grow on trees, to swing deals. The M's have the 2nd best farm system (or the 28th worst).

So, if we really NEED Matt Olson (which I kind of feel we do), and IF he is available by trade, and IF we get outbid by the Yankess, then shame on us. We deserve to wallow in mediocrity.

If we do outbid them, and he turns out to be a stud for 2 seasons, then damn, a thumb in a Yankee eye would feel pretty good. Just saying.

Deal
So we get Olson for Stoudt and or Williamson plus whatever non top 100 prospects or Ford and you win. Anything else you lose.
I thought you were making the deal FOR it to happen? The likely hood of M. Olson coming to Seattle is so small. I doubt he ever makes it into Mariner blue.
Only reason is because we have a dumb fuck for a GM. It was a great idea by you and I think Captain and now he is available but we have no chance to get him and the Yankees will probably get him for guys that pale in comparison to what we should be offering.

I have a feeling you're right - got that feeling in my gut. Or maybe it's that week old burrito I thought would be "OK enough to eat" for lunch.

But IMHO, I don't buy the logic that the M's are in the same division so they won't deal to us. We swung a mid-season deal for Toro from the division rival *stros. We have a history of dealing with the Rangers and they're in our division. Besides, the Yankees are a perennial thorn in the A's asses since they often seem to meet for wild card playoff games. And besides, the Yanks and A's face each other more during the regular season than the A's face, say, a NL team.

Whatever. I think if we lose out to the Yanks, its because our offer was weaker and not because we're division rivals.

IMHO.

It just makes sense. I still think we have the prospects available to pull off a deal like this, but I know Jerry has a plan in place.

That same division shit is complete nonsense especially for a team that is set on rebuilding.....

Oakland recently traded Khris Davis for Elvis Andrus. So they have shown that they are willing to deal within the organization

Yep its just a myth. Why would a GM worth his salt be afraid to make a trade that he would regret because it was in the same division or otherwise. JD still has nightmares about the Taylor trade even though it was not even in the same league.

Which is why I'm surprised he traded A. Shenton. must not have liked his glove very much. But all that deadline moving basically boiled down to substituting a prospect in Austin Shenton and swapping him out for a switch hitting middle infielder that was further along in his develop process, in A. Toro.

Plenty of chatter surrounding the Yankees and Matt Olson.... those arrogant bastards always believe they are entitled to a team's MVP and that that team should accept whatever trash prospects they throw at them..... (Mariners have taken the hook with Sheffield and Jesus Montero)

I see Shannon Drayer today told Mike Salk that the M's were very solid on making first move to sign Marcus Simien.... that's a good start, do it..... sign the Japanese outfielder.... it's ok... sign Verlander....ok.... But get your head out of your ass and get after Matt Olson, do not let the Yankees snap him up with a lesser offer... we have the trade chips...
