A couple of things amidst all your whining and bitching in this thread:

Why are we re-posting a Brock Huard column? This guy is an ex-QB with zero baseball expertise. He's not a writer. This "column" was a re-post of what everyone already knows, zero unique thoughts. I don't want to see another Huard post ever again on this site. Fuck Huard.

Second, aside from perhaps the Cody Bellinger signing, what contract can you point to over the last week and say, "I'd do that! Give me that player on THAT contract."
Do you want Aaron Judge thru age 40 at $40m per?
Do you want Xander Bogaerts thru age 41 at $27.5m per?
Do you want Trea Turner thru age 40 at $27m per?
Do you want Brandon Nimmo thru age 38 at $20m per?

I mean what the fuck are we talking about here?

The #Mariners did their due diligence. They checked in on every FA that filled a need and realized how strong the market was and rightfully said "fuck that."

You can't make emotional decisions in this game. It's going to be really fun to track teams like the Padres, Rangers and the Mets who are essentially building their entire clubs through the FA market. They are throwing away draft capital and the finances to hold onto their own home-grown stars in the name of signing the best players for a 3-4 yr peak window. Welp, better cross everything you have for good health across the board. Better knock on wood that things break your way.
First of all it is a Corey Brock article and secondly it is the Jerry quotes that are relevant not anything Corey wrote. Hopefully he was just posturing but saying he would be perfectly happy starting the season with the current lineup which is fucking nuts.

I knew we weren't going to sign Judge or any of the SSs but the Yoshida and Bell deals were very reasonable.

Also Nimmo will be 37 yo the final year in 2030 and in 2030 $20M will probably be what platoon OFers will be getting paid so who F-ing cares.

It isn't a choice between Judge or Gott. There are a lot of FAs in the middle that would have helped that they are to cheap to be even in on. If they fill with trades in the next couple months fine but not holding my breath....

When I first saw this thread, I also assumed it was Brock Huard the thread title referred to.

In some years, yeah there are a lot of FAs in the middle. I'll grant you Josh Bell and Jose Abreu. I'd take both of those players on those deals. I don't know about you, but I watch a lot of MLB Now and Brian Kenny and he says two things about FA.
1) never pay big in FA (over 50 percent of $100m+ deals over entire history of FA have been disasters)
2) BUT IF YOU DO, sign a SS. Stay away from aging DH, corner players

there might still be some FAs in the middle, a Benintendi and a Brantley. And maybe we can add on of those players if the term is right. We shall see. So far, aside from the Abreu deal (because he could play first and bump France to DH), I'm happy we passed.

It's pretty funny to me how so many people here are breaking their china right now after the Mariners "reversing" and "going back on their promise" when if you look around the league at literally every upper echelon baseball franchise -- from ATL to HOU to LAD to STL to SEA to SF -- aside from the Cards deal to fill their catching hole w/ Contreras... either the team has sat out the FA market or signed contracts of 3 yrs or shorter.

If you want FAs, go be a fan of the Padres. Hell, they train at Peoria too, so you don't need to change your ST plans

I don't know. But both Corey Brock and Brock Huard exist as sports media people in this region.

Sure is quite the repute if you're writing makes me think you're some radio voice and ex-QB with no journalism training. Corey Brock needs to work a little harder imo

He sometimes dabs his toe into writing columns, mostly on Seahawks. Maybe he hasn't done so for awhile. I don't know. I don't check my northwest anymore

Corey Brock is a complete joke of a sports reporter. He's an absolute non-entity.
