Good start for Marco. It is important for the team that some of the bright spots continue to be bright. Seager, Marco, the 2 catchers, Nola, VBach, JP, BP and prospects showing well.
Who is BP?
Bullpen
The bullpen hasn't been a bright spot.

I assume he means recently. They are 8th in baseball the past 30 days. There is nobody on the 40 man with a last name that starts with P let alone initials BP.

Going into 2020 the rotation looks like it will be:

Gonzales
TBD (trade/FA)
Kikuchi
Sheffield
LeBlanc/Swanson/Dunn

I wonder if they would consider Gilbert. Only a year younger than Sheff and actually a little better in AA than Sheff.

I'm not sure that they'd put that many innings on his arm. If he comes, I'd expect him to be here in June, so they can avoid the super 2.

Yeah, I think June would be perfect. That would give him some time in AAA to see how he fares there as well.

In 1972 Steve Carlton won 27 games for a Phillies team that won 59. Imagine how many he would have won if they were actually good.
Surprisingly a cursory look at the game logs tells me that he probably would have only won a few more if the Phillies were decent. Most of the ten he lost were deserved and the NDs he didn't pitch particularly well in either. Pitched great in nearly every win.

I looked too and you're right, even with a good team he would have been really hard pressed to equal Denny McLain's 31 victories four years prior.

346 innings that year and even though he kind of stunk it up in 1973 he pitched another 17 years. At 38 he was still throwing almost 300 innings.

That is what I find odd. They say pitchers throw harder now so they can't throw as many innings but I find it hard to believe many pitchers throw harder than he did.

I think back in the day, it was more survival of the fittest. Some guys have bodies that can pitch thousands of innings without breaking down, some don't. Back then, if you didn't have that type of body, you didn't make it. Now they have TJ surgery, they understand biomechanics better, and they try to preserve arms. If not for modern advances in medicine and trying to preserve arms, a good percentage of mlb pitchers wouldn't be able to pitch

The variance in durability in pro athletes is pretty amazing.

Cal Ripken vs. Troy Tulo

RW vs. Luck

Marshawn vs. CJ

Greg Oden vs. KD
