A question about Kelenic that doesn't really get asked...

What does it say that Kelenic is having more success in Atlanta?

I personally think it's offensive philosophy. I think the M's view hitting through a lens of utter lunacy. The fact that so many players come here and can't hit. The fact that so many hitters leave here and do hit... the proof is in the pudding.

Whatever they are doing in the batting cages, in meeting rooms, in preparation... it just doesn't work.

But why would vets like Garver and Polo who were successful there entire careers change a thing after listening to a HC that has presided for dog shit offenses for a half decade.

Exactly, veterans aren't coming to Seattle and buying into some coaching nonsense that makes them incapable of hitting a baseball. They have had years of success doing it their way, they aren't changing that

Never know how it would have turned out if they had just told Ford he was our DH, given him a normal preseason to prepare as a returner, without being sent to AAA, without spending a week off after opting out of his contract (May 1) and being brought back and up to the Reds (May 8th).

And how the playoffs would have gone down for us if they wouldn't have benched him vs. EVERY LH Starter despite his 900+ career OPS against them. Still can't believe that Times article on the Genius that runs the Analytics Dept. Fucking Joke and waste of money.

Honesty it's probably coincidence, bringing in guys that are at the point of collapse. Everyone wants a particular reason but there isn't one

Yeah, when we bring in guys that have to shown signs of decline? I know Camo had his struggles at time, but he and Cruz sure didn't turn into pumpkins because the stadium was too big and the marine air top dense!

We bring in these guys that might have been good if this or that hadn't happened, or guys that were pretty good a year or two ago and just need this or that to bounce back. I think we are just too cheap and always looking for a bargain.

That is accurate for some guys but not all of them. Winker was just coming into what was supposed to be his prime at age 28 and had just had a .949 OPS when we acquired him. Teo was coming off 3 consecutive seasons over an .800 OPS. Adam Frazier hit .305 the year before they got him. None of these guys were has-beens that they were hoping would bounce back.

Valid point. I guess it’s a combination of everything. I don’t follow this as closely as you guys, but it seems to me that Winker and Frazier at least, and maybe Teo also, were pieces of a lineup. They were brought here and expected to be big pieces. They couldn’t handle it. Shit, Julio can’t handle it. Back to my example, Cano and Cruz were Alphas. Maybe we need to spend and get another one?

This idea that you draft and develop and then augment by trading seems to not be working. But then again? Do I want Jerry spending big on FA bats? Maybe not the guy for the job?
