Don't resign Geno

Sign Bregman

This teams needs more hitters, not swing and missers

As usual we lived by the sword and died by the sword. We struck out more than twice as much as Toronto with a lot of them on pitches out of the zone. We obviously need to sign Naylor and a bonified leadoff hitter like Kwan. A left hand power reliever to compliment Spier would be helpful. Bottom line: We need to put the ball in play significantly more often.

Manager Dan cost his team the game.
Pulled Kirby WAY too early. Rookie manager making rookie mistakes. And what the f*** was Spier (misspelled, don’t care) doing even warming up.

Jays manager is shitty yet he ran circles around Wilson this series. Sad.
Speaking of pulling your pitcher way too early, that idiotic pull of Cy Young Skubal after 6, after pitching a two hitter and striking out 13, with a one run lead, handed the Ms that series.

But these modern managers are all hyperactive, they’d rather do something than nothing.

Bringing in a relief pitcher when no relief is needed, is dumb.

In 1975 Catfish Hunter had 30 complete games. In 2025 there were 12 complete games in all of MLB.

Proves my point. They had 4 man rotations, 5 in the bullpen for actual Relief, of a faltering starter!

That gave the manager more utility players to work things around.

You might recall that decades ago, the best relief pitcher in each league won the fireman of the year award.

For putting out a fire.

And finish with 2+ innings.

Not this seventh inning specialist, 8th inning specialist, that’s bullshit.

And don’t get me started on the starting pitcher, pitching one inning, can you imagine Drysdale doing that?

Bottom line, if a manager in a gigantic game, can’t rely on his stud to go nine innings, what’s the point of having him in the first place?

As a Washington Senators fan many decades ago there was something beautiful about watching your starting pitcher, slogging through nine tough innings, winning it, and then walking off the mound to the roars of all of us fans.

Younger guys have no idea how fantastic it was being a fan back then.

And my hometown team was mediocre at best.

By the time he was 30 he was cooked, but he, Ken Holtzman and Vida Blue throwing all those innings probably helped the A's (and then later for Catfish the Yanks) win those pennants and championships. You know who it definitely helped? Those Dodger teams of the '60s. If Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale didn't throw all those innings the Dodgers at best win one pennant instead of three (with two World Series championships).

For shits and giggles I looked up the list of Mariner pitchers who have thrown 10 or more complete games in a season. Here's the list:

Mike Parrott, 13 in 1979
Jim Beattie, 12 in 1984
Mike Moore, 14 in 1985, 11 in 1986, 12 in 1987
Mark Langston, 14 in 1987
Randy Johnson, 10 in 1983

Nobody on the 1969 Pilots did it, Gene Brabender led the team with 7 complete games.

But yeah, managers these days try too hard to be the hero, and that's what Wilson did by having short leashes on Kirby (who was on) and Woo (who wasn't at his best but was still getting outs and by the way is our best pitcher). Bazardo did a great job for us though until last night so it wasn't quite like calling a goal-line slant to the special teams gunner with a chance to win the Super Bowl.

Thoughts looking forward:

1) M's have way too many sub .250 hitters.
2) Would have been a disaster to play the $600 million dollar Dodgers in the WS.
3) League needs to institute a salary cap.
4) Placed way too much confidence in marginal relief pitchers.
