Good trivia question. Who was the last toe hacker in the NFL?Moe Gibbs wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2020 3:27 pmI would have guessed he was in his 30s with a beer gut like that....D-train wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2020 3:21 pm
I can't believe he was only 23 when he did it. For some reason I thought he was near the end of his career. He was only 73 yo. 50th anniversary will be this fall. His career % is only 61%. Not surprising the toe hackers went out of business..
Josh Lambo led the NFL last season making 33 of 34 for 97%. The worst kicker was Bret Maher who only made 20 of 30 for 67%.
He was a straight on kicker so there were way more chances of a "slice" or an unintentional "hook". Soccer style kickers have an intentional, predictable amount of hook and very low chance of a slice..but having just half a foot would STILL improve a soccer style guy's "club head speed".

Did you know or have to look it up? I had to look it up. Was Garo Yepremian the first soccer style kicker?

Re: Virus Schmirus
looking at his career, he was a two way player
at ND
at ND
In the 1956 season, he led his team offensively in passing, rushing, scoring, kickoff and punt returns, and punting. He also played defense and led his team in passes broken up and was second in interceptions and tackles made

I know but when you lose by 3 points and your kicker goes 0-5 you would think that might clue you in to change things up somehow. Not exactly any intense analytics required.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2020 4:20 pmback then it wasn't considered a full time job, teams had players from other positions do the kicking. They really didn't give a shit
The first paragraph is pretty funny:

Re: Virus Schmirus
wonder if he did the kicking because he was Paul Horning, or was he actually the best kicker on the teamD-train wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2020 4:55 pmI know but when you lose by 3 points and your kicker goes 0-5 you would think that might clue you in to change things up somehow. Sometime in the 1960s I recall a kicker went 4 for 4..... or 4 for 5 and the announcers treated this like it was Earth Shattering news.....
