Castillo's gotten steadily worse each season with the Mariners. But he isn't that old and his fastball velocity has only gone down a little bit. I wonder if he just doesn't work that well with the analytical style of the Mariners pitching coaches.
its home runs isn't it...he gives them up against his fastball.

It because his fastball is slower and easier to hit and he’s never been great at locating it

Vedder is comparing the Vedder Cup to the Stanley Cup. Not joking.
I would say the 3 most prestigious cups are World Cup, Stanley Cup, and Vedder Cup.
Not necessarily in that order. My favorite Cup is the Double D Cup and not just because I am D train.

he could try not tossing it as often
The thinking here is that the former Cincinnati Red is relying too much on his fastballs and hitters are sitting dead red and lapping it up. In fact at 45.9 percent of the time he's relying on his four-seamer, more than at any point in his Major League career since his rookie year in 2017, when he used his heater 46.6 percent of the time.

Castillo, Gilbert, Kirby, and Miller all regressed, right? Woo now the ace.

The rest are kind of hit or miss after Woo. We'll see if they can find their groove.

Seth is saying Castillo is pitching hurt. That's no good if true. Otherwise, I do think he could find a groove. He's not that old. But, still I think the other 3 Gilbert, Kirby, and Miller all have a better chance of finding a level of dominance before the season ends.

The whole thing is a marathon. Am I wrong that Castillo is usually a strong finisher?

Miller has had good velo.

I don't know what to expect with this team. That makes it interesting I guess.

Padres offense is good.

It's still early!

It does really take a lot of killer instinct to win a Vedder Cup game when you've already wrapped up the series.

Imagine winning the first 4 games of the Stanley Cup and then going out there again...

Yes and we have truly shown that we have it. Can't wait for Dan's post game speech after we lose today and tomorrow stating we accomplished our annual goal of winning the Vedder cup.

MLB should make a special scheduling provision for the Ms vs Padres to always be a 3 game series at one park and a 4 game series at the other park, alternating HFA each year. That way we can prevent ties for the Vedder Cup. This should really be a top priority, since the Vedder Cup is quickly becoming one of the biggest draws in all of MLB right up there with the World Series and the All Star Game.

The biggest problem for Castillo is vs. lefties. Three years ago, he had one of the best changeups in baseball, which gave him an asymmetric against lefty hitters. Without that pitch, he's got nothing vs. lefties and they just rake him over the coals.
