It probably has more to do with the fact that Stevenson fits their timeline. Stevenson has the same skillset as Harry but more power upside and likely won't be here until like 2028 when Cal is maybe slowing down.Coeurd’Alene J wrote: ↑Sun Dec 07, 2025 12:08 amGreat pointSexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Sat Dec 06, 2025 11:50 pmThis also saves money to go out and acquire another free agent bat, or trade for someone like Donovan with a $7.5M salary AAV.
I’m not a Harry fan either. Maybe management saw the holes in his game and didn’t want them exposed and lose value
No use for a 22 year old BU catcher when you can improve your club now.

Luke Stevenson is probably a better overall product when everything is said and done than Harry.
The Mariners are really good at molding a guy into the type of player that is amazing. They've done this countless times. Its not like this is some shot in the dark. The M's will turn this guy into a stud house hold name.

Garver’s looking for a job. Hopefully he’s not on Jerry’s radar…Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Dec 07, 2025 12:04 amNow the Mariners weirdos on Twitter are crying, "WHO IS GOING TO BE OUR BACKUP CATCHER!????"
Idk... someone with a pulse?
Who gives a fuck.

M's may just have to bring Mitch Garver backseth8734 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 06, 2025 11:31 pmDont know why Ford couldent be used for his bat and Dh. Juat horrible move. He is not a great catcher but has great bat skills. Who is our Dh going into this season right now? Should have told Ford he would dh with catching a game here and there. Horrible move hopefully it works out!!!!
I'm okay with the trade with trepidation. Had high hopes for Ford but I could say that 100 times over about past Seattle minor leaguers.
There will be a few catchers brought in to try to be Cal's backup. None will carry Garver's $12,000,000 price tag.
Here's the current back-up catcher depth:
Roster Resource lists Nick Raposo - R - 27.5 (picked up off waivers from Toronto in Dec. '24) as the closest thing to a back-up. That shit won't stick.
Connor Charping - R - 26.7 (non-drafted FA)
Luke Stevenson - L - 21.4
Josh Caron -R - 22.3
Matthew Ellis - L - 25.3 (non-drafted FA)
Grant Jay - R - 22.2
Connor Dykstra - R - 24.7 (non-drafted FA)
Sebastian De Andrade - R - 19.6 (Amateur FA - VEN)
Draw your own conclusions. I doubt if any of the above with see a ML roster in 2026.
I hope Ferrer is the real deal. Santos was supposed to be the real deal. We got him from the Chicago White Sox for Prelander Berroa, Zach DeLoach and future considerations. Prelander was underwhelming in the minors for Charlotte in '24. He did not pitch at all in '25. DeLoach was merely pedestrian for Charlotte in '24 % '25.
Rocky Colavito is a Hall of Famer in my book!

Yeah, at this point, I'm like who really cares. Cal is catching 150 games. It doesn't matter who our back up is. Could do a lot worse than Heim. Our bullpen just got a lot better!Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Dec 07, 2025 12:47 amGive me Jonah Heim.bhofferb wrote: ↑Sun Dec 07, 2025 12:34 amGarver’s looking for a job. I think the M's go and get a Polanco deal done after this. That's the next chess piece.

Lefty who throws Almost a 100mph and was set to be the Nationals Closer. He helps us now in our window!!! Good deal for both.
Re: Breaking news! A trade
My only regret in this deal is that we did not get another player thrown in...a Nat 18-19yo rookie league player with some potential...a lottery ticket....like David Arias, who was a PTBN

Yep. This guy’s numbers are mediocre. Dumb move imho. Should have gotten more.
