Looks like I am going to survive this time. Never felt so horrible in my life beginning with projectile vomiting of the most vile bile I have even seen in my life on Friday. It was due to 4 bleeding ulcers which have now healed. Ironically the biggest culprit was chronic use of ibuprofen. Alcohol made it worse but not primary factor. I could not walk for more than 3 steps without feeling I was going to pass out. Thursday night I had to crawl from the bathroom to bed. All good now though. Will be out of here about noon.

Speaking of booze... I find it remarkable the enormous shift in attitude about it. Anybody else feel that way? I've been curious about others perception. A lot of it seems a real shift in young people attitudes towards alcohol. That and seems like a barrage of negative press about the health consequences. Honestly, I get anxiety now just cracking a beer. Liquor companies are in terrible shape. Have a friend I remember years ago thinking about getting into a craft distillery. Thats not something you want to be in these days.

It is a horrific vicious cycle in terms anxiety. It causes anxiety the day after and then the only thing to relieve the anxiety is to start drinking again................

But just the perception. The whole thing about kicking it, the drinking culture I think has changed. It's like the joking about the spring training trips being a bunch of drinking, that sort of attitude doesn't fly like it once did. I think a lot of it has to do with young people. They aren't drinking Like we did. You look at sales, alcohol is way down, at least it's represented that way in the press

I'm glad I don't drink. I drank some when I was younger but I never liked it. It was strictly a crutch to help with social anxiety, which has always plagued me. But now I mostly just stay at home and there's no reason at all to drink.

Hey, DT, I didn't get what the Cage/Vegas/Alc. Poisoning post was about when I glanced at it in this thread.
Stay brave, stay true and and be vigilant. My thoughts are with you and I believe you'll come out on top.
I don't get this. Is DT literally trying to kill himself with alcohol like Nicolas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas? If so, some of you assholes that know him IRL need to intervene.

If he's not actually trying to do that then it's a weird joke that I don't get and I have a darker sense of humor than anyone I know.

And by "come out on top" do you mean succeed at killing himself with alcohol or by not killing himself with alcohol?
As in coming clean (on top), clean bill of health, clean and sober, cleansed, detoxified. I think my, "Stay brave, stay true and be vigilant" should have made it clear the intent of my sentiments towards Darren. "Come out on top", I think, is more positive and hopeful than saying, "bottom out, Dude".
Darren must have been taking a lot of ibuprofen for that to be an issue. My #1 is aspirin, which is not often. #2 choice is acetaminophen. Have heard that the worst is Advil so if I'm in great need, I will take ibuprofen, but that is rare.

I knew exactly what you meant brother. Thank you.

I was probably doing 8-10 a day. It wasn't even an addiction, just offered minor head ache relief in the morning and minor sleep aid before bed. So stupid.

Maybe today is when I'll take you up on your one-on-one basketball challenge    . NOT!

Personally, I haven't eaten a solid meal since leftovers the day after Easter. I really, really porked out that Sunday AND Monday. So 8 days only drinking my own thick, juice concoctions. Various combinations of green Bolthouse or Naked juice or Carrot juice with added:
Alfalfa powder
Spirulina
Moringa leaf powder
Spinach powder
Broccoli powder
Wheatgrass powder
Barley powder
Kale powder
Parsley powder
Garlic extract
Gingerroot powder
Chlorella
Matcha (green tea leaf) powder
Maca powder
Tumeric
Astragalus
Ginseng
Blends of Mushroom powders
Antioxidant blends
Mild fiber blends

Pea protein

Beet juice with beetroot powder, goji berry powder, cinnamon, etc.

Coconut juice
Aloe juice, other vegetable or fruit juices.....thank God I'm not diabetic

I'll be drinking a SYNERGY Kombucha Marine Greens drink later today. Full of probiotics. It is fermented, so.....alcohol.

All I can say is, I feel FANTASTIC....but that peanut butter jar is enticing. I've got chips calling me out. I wanna go to The Keg for a steak. There's a bag of candy in the cabinet that follows me around all day.

Also, working full time, being called in on one of my days off for the last 2 months, too. And I'll be 74 in July. FANTASTIC

Peanut butter is great for you, I grind it myself, what's interesting to grind with peanuts is cacao nibs, throw some in your smoothie
Studies show daily peanut consumption may reduce heart disease risk by up to 38%
Dark chocolate (70%+ cocoa) offers significant health benefits, including improved cardiovascular health, enhanced brain function, reduced inflammation, and better blood sugar control

Either you have the gene or you don't. It is not a choice. It is hereditary. My grandfather died in his late 50s from it. Had both legs amputated and still didn't stop.

I was also insanely shy as a kid and drinking was my miracle drug. Before when talking sober to girls I couldn't even speak but then I was like Casanova. LOL

A lot of people think alcoholics just want to get really drunk. Not the case for me. It is just that slowly losing your buzz is just a horrific feeling so you keep drinking to prevent that from happen and eventually your body can't handle all the alcohol and you get too drunk. I could always quit cold turkey no problem for a month or more but then something really good would happen and I would want to celebrate and then starting drinking and drank too much every single time. Over 40 years of this. Always a very functional alcoholic with zero physical issues until recently.
