This is a nothing trade season for the M’s. At best, we shed some salary and didn’t give up the farm.

Paint me cynical here, but the Mariners needed a massive offensive upgrade. Taylor Ward is definitely a step up from Refsnyder, but if these are the only moves, the Mariners will make before the deadline, it’s not enough.

This team is anemic offensively, and they needed to make a moonshot to put this team in playoff contention.

Oh well. There’s still a few hours left. Maybe Dipoto is orchestrating the blockbuster of all blockbusters. I guess I can always hope.
Maybe?????
The solution to our anemic offense is for our star players to show up; a moonshot trade is not realistic. There is nothing available out there on the trade market that will change our trajectory by itself. I wish it were otherwise......

So far the support for Dipoto's trade deals are decidedly mixed. Castillo for a potential leverage reliever with control issues and in another trade we get a guy who walks a lot or hits singles against lefties, Taylor Ward for minor league fillers. Too Little...Too Late.. this is underwhelming and I am so tired of shopping for bargains at Goodwill.

Don' t get me wrong, I'm glad we found a home for Castillo and saved the franchise 10-20 million. I was just hoping when the dust settled we might have added a little reliable quality like Luke Weaver and George Springer or Seiya Suzuki. and. maybe even an Otto Lopez
I warned you that you wouldn't be happy. Could still get Weaver. If we don't get a BP arm this deadline is a fail. Looks like the other three aren't getting traded. The notion the Marlins were going to trade their best player under control through 2029 was always ridiculous.
Pirates got Weaver all the bigger names are being picked up. Fkkkkk

I mean... bottom line is he's a 140 OPS+ hitter vs LHP's.

Refsnyder? 43 OPS+.

You've just replaced your biggest liability on the roster vs left handed pitching with a guy who handles them very well.

Ward is also on pace for 3 WAR... pretty good for a team whose right field has put up -1.5 WAR on the year.
Refsnyder had a 159 wRC+ vs LHP last season. Then he got plopped in a Mariners platoon.
He only had 71 PAs vs RHPs last season. Equivalent of about 18 games...
Which means he had the equivalent of about 35 games of PA's against LHP (138 PA).

Then Dipoto gave him $6M to be our answer to LHP.

Unreal.

Yeah, Colby Patnode called the moves "measured" and prudent...said this is the best way to trade, acquiring rentals....uften works out well..so I'm raising ny appreciation level for tactics this season. A couple hours left and I expect one more last minute deal

Truer than true. Raleigh needs to rise from his ashes like a Phoenix. Julio must put on his determined panties, put away his buffoonery smiles and laughter and be professional. Those two alone could have helped win at least a dozen of the MN's losses.
Colt, I believe in you. I get that you are overwhelmed. Put on your stallion saddle and ride.
Vacancy at 3rd base sign is still up as far as I'm concerned.
Sure wish Matt Brash was mended.
Rocky Colavito is a Hall of Famer in my book!

They're better than nothing moves.

The Castillo trade and freeing up dollars was a big deal (if they spend it on a different player now).

Ward's better than Refsnyder at least. Can't be worse!

Right....?

Pretty Meh trade but we gave up NOTHING so all good.
Yeah, looks like a pure salary dump for the Oriholes.

Ward having just the weirdest season. His power has disappeared to where he hit 36 home runs last year but only seven so far this year, yet he's on pace to draw about 125 walks. How the hell is that even possible?

I don't know how much he's going to move the needle, but at least he replaces Robles and Ref should be DFA'd.

If we pull off a trade for Mason Miller I'll feel a lot better. Can't see it happening, unfortunately, and I'm guessing that DiPoto thinks he solved everything with Sarasmile Dominguez.
The Friars want Kade Anderson in return for Miller. Thats a hard no for me.
