He was at .237/.781 from late April until the end of June but the recent slump was a major setback.Juliooooo wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 8:40 pmCould use 3 infielders where France can rotate and play some DH, but they will probably add 1 at most.
Moore needs to get back above the Mendoza line if he wants to be utility.
I agree, France needs to pick it up also, but he's holding his own this year with the league wide lack of offense.D-train wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 8:21 pmTOTALLY AGREE he needs to get the OPS over .800 even with his amazing D at 1B.IStillLoveTheMs wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 8:15 pmIf France can jump his production to .280/.370/.450/.820 w. 25-30 dingers then I'd be fine w. him playing 3B in a "bat-first" position like you're mentioning.bpj wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 8:01 pmIll take a bat-first player at every position. His OPS is already better than Seager by a good margin. Far more runs created by his bat than his glove would cost compared to Seager or Moore.
If they can add a Kris Bryant, by all means, do it.
But France is our best current option. All depends where they choose to spend their $'s.
1B/DH will be much cheaper as always.
But .264/.348/.419/.767 isn't cutting it.
Seager is a far better defensive 3B and his career OPS is .764... reducing drastically as it seems he's leaving his prime.![]()
He was at .850 in April, .510 in May when he was injured, .867 in June and is hitting .308 this month but only 1 x base hit so .691 OPS.
He is an .800+ bat long term imo.
Why not both?
A Haniger level bat is a career .820 OPS hitter w. a ceiling of .860 and a floor of .780 at about 30 homers a season w. a full year of control making somewhere around $10 million in arb... who also has rapport w. the team and community.
Yeah that is why I included the "and". The "or" is tempering my expectation in the spirit of fool me once shame on M's ownership....fool me twice...They said they are going to spend but have heard that before.IStillLoveTheMs wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 8:54 pmWhy not both?
Just stick Bryant at 3B and Semien at 2B.
Make Moore our util w. Fraley as a rotational OF.
DH Haniger and let him play the occasional RF where you then move Bryant to 1B
1. Kelenic LF
2. Haniger DH/RF
3. Semien 2B
4. Bryant 3B/DH/1B
5. Lewis CF
6. France 1B/3B/2B
7. Raleigh C
8. JRod RF
9. Crawford SS
OF Fraley / UT Moore / C Torrens
Sounds like a dime a dozen for a DH.IStillLoveTheMs wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 9:00 pmA Haniger level bat is a career .820 OPS hitter w. a ceiling of .860 and a floor of .780 at about 30 homers a season w. a full year of control making somewhere around $10 million in arb... who also has rapport w. the team and community.
He costs little, is a good bat, and gives you more flexibility than a basic DH (injuries happen in loads as we've seen).
I find it funny how our best hitter is seen a detriment in some respects![]()
makes little sense.
What he did before his injury years ago when he was in was in his prime is beyond irrelevant. He is what he is today which is a sub 800 hacker with power and no plate disciple ranked at the bottom of the barrel defensively. 1.3 WAR at the AS break.IStillLoveTheMs wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 9:00 pmA Haniger level bat is a career .820 OPS hitter w. a ceiling of .860 and a floor of .780 at about 30 homers a season w. a full year of control making somewhere around $10 million in arb... who also has rapport w. the team and community.
