Interesting that the team refuses to fight when things don't go right.

If I were in that dugout I'd be steaming and making sure the team is staying focused.
I believe it comes from the deflated look on Servais. If your manager is scared to fight, argue, or defend players then the team sees that and loses motivation
Yup. Agreed. His attitude on the bench has always bugged me.
Pitchers must have loved his calming demeanor during his 11 year mlb catching career.

Servais played in one playoff series in his career and his team was swept. Means he's never won a playoff game as a manager or player.

He's not a winner. He's a loser.

I'm fine with it. We're not competing for anything. Save the pen. Let Felix log his innings, throw 110 and then send him to the showers. I don't even understand the point of managing the game any harder than that this entire season. What are we doing? We're losing. That's our goal. Lose a ton of games.

Wouldn't be a M's broadcast w/o Simms mentioning Willie Mays. You'd think Mays played for the M's.

If this game continues as it's going it's going to be another lopsided defeat and that's the biggest thing I see about this team that's disturbing, the fact that when they get behind they just quit. They don't even put up courtesy runs off the scrubby mop-up man late in games like this. They just quit, and while the manager really doesn't have the impact on games that people think he does, that is a reflection of him. He doesn't fight for them, he doesn't give them the stern talking-tos that Lou Piniella did, and you see it in games like this.
These guys may have an answer for you
