The 20 games left verses 21 as the magic number.
When the Mariners win it's 1
When the other team loses, it's also a 1
so from one day to the next, there can be a 2 game swing.

Magic number is for outright elimination. They do hold the tie breaker so it would be 20 if they finish in a two way tie. However there could conceivably be a 3 way tie in which tie breaker may not break the Ms way so you cant definitively say that a combination of Ms Wins and Jay's losses adding up to 20 would give the Ms the nod over the Jay's.
