The Rangers LITERALLY just bought a Title.Mesully11 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 10:51 pmI expect we will see more of these deferrals that will enable large and spendy market teams to tharwt the intentions of the competitive balance tax.
I am sure that what the dodgers and Ohtani did is legal but it doesn't help the talent drain that goes to those teams and makes the competition unbalanced.
Spending doesn't buy titles but it sure makes it a lot easier to win 54 percent every year.
Ohtani to Dodgers!!!!!

That's probably nuttier than the contract
Shohei Ohtani impact:
The ‘Get In’ price for opening-day tickets vs the St. Louis Cardinals at Dodger Stadium has soared to $359

Especially when everyone in LA could watch him 30 miles away in Anaheim since 2017Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 2:20 pmThat's probably nuttier than the contract

Re: Ohtani to Dodgers!!!!!
Are the fans that watched him as an angel now vying for tickets with dodger fans? It hadn't occured to me until now but have the dodgers managed to tap into another fan base? That could be an angle that made the $700 mil more realistic. Arty pulling his hair out
Re: Ohtani to Dodgers!!!!!
There are ~18M people in the LA Metro area. Those prices would seem normal if this was his first season in the US but are people really paying that just to see him in a Dodger Uniform. He is basically Yordan Alvarez if he can't pitch.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 2:47 pmAre the fans that watched him as an angel now vying for tickets with dodger fans? Re: Ohtani to Dodgers!!!!!
You understand that's the price for the worst seat in the stadium and it's mostly likely only going to increase. I think there's more hype involved than him being another Yordan Alverez. Assuming that's higher than the normal opening day bleacher ticket to dodge stadium

I know. I don't get it. If it was NYC or even Toronto or Seattle it would make more sense.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 3:11 pmYou understand that's the price for the worst seat in the stadium and it's mostly likely only going to increase. PAs Career OPS WAR
Yordan 2033 .978 18.2
Ohtani 2871 .922 19.4
He can't pitch and played 6 seasons 30 miles away. Where is the novelty and the hype coming from other than he is wearing different colored laundry

Yup, it's the cloth he has on his back. It has nothing to do with comparing his OPS to Yordans. What I'm curious about is it strictly dodger fans that's fueling it or is there some kind of spill over of angel fans. And had the dodgers factored that in
Re: Ohtani to Dodgers!!!!!
I guess if there are fans burning his jersey their could be the other end of the spectrum that love him so much they follow him from Anaheim to LA?Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 3:29 pmYup, it's the cloth he has on his back.
