One degree of longitude equals 54.6 miles and the Earth rotates one degree every 4 min. So the difference is 11.75 minutes of time.
Question: how fast does the surface of the Earth move relative to a point at the center of the planet? (Or what speed would you have to travel in a westward direction in order to remain perpetually in the same time of day?)

Re: Trade deadline poll
Actually my calculations were messed up because the 54.6 figure is dependent on latitude and probably applies to the equator.Juliooooo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 3:46 pmNot sure if this is what you are asking, but at the equator it’s 1000 miles per hour, so at the equator, the earth moves 66.67 miles in the same 4 minutesSibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 3:42 pmPortland is about 150 miles west of Tri-cities. I once had to drop off a cousin in Las Vegas for a flight are around 10pm on New Year’s Eve. When I drive home, I crossed the border and it was after 12. I never technically experienced the new years clock strike midnightD-train wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 3:48 pm24,901 mi/24 hours 1,038 mph When the Concorde existed you could celebrate New Years even in London and then fly to NYC and celebrate it there a few hours later.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 3:42 pmPortland is about 150 miles west of Tri-cities.
