A trade deadline plan
Re: A trade deadline plan
I just don't think Jerry gives up his prize top prospects (one of the two things he can still point to along with Starting pitching as his successes) for more Ks less OBP and good chance he gets injured in August.
Probably only a 1 in a 1000 chance the runner trips or pulls a hammy but what is the downside of throwing home other than not looking cool. We already have enough "Cool" guys on the roster. We need a baller.

While Robert looks like more of a .320 OBP guy, he's put up really good batting averages over the years.
If you want to reduce K's you can do it elsewhere... go trade for Lamonte Wade and stick him at 1B. Hell, trade for Nico Hoerner to play 2B... he never K's. JP Crawford needs to reduce his K rates again. Rojas doesn't K too much at 3B.
Make something like that infield, then you'll take the K rates from Robert, Raley, Julio, and Cal.

Rooker now has 16HRs a .338 OBP and a 145 OPS+. No payroll impact for years. And is durable.

He brings almost no defensive value and has a minimal track record and has Mike Ford's pedigree. He will cost a few pennies but the don't need to be very pretty.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 4:39 pmThen trade for him. But if you're looking for reduced K rates, he's not it.
He's also going to cost a pretty penny.

Robert 2-4 today with a double.D-train wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 3:50 pmI just don't think Jerry gives up his prize top prospects (one of the two things he can still point to along with Starting pitching as his successes) for more Ks less OBP and good chance he gets injured in August.

OPS up to .820.

Re: A trade deadline plan
Those guys come up with teams based on need not because they know anything tangible. Anything is possible, I guess but if you consider the hitters that Jerry has traded for Robert doesn't quite fit in the Canzone, Rojas, Toro mold. lolSeattle or Bust wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 1:00 amRobert 2-4 today with a double.D-train wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 3:50 pmI just don't think Jerry gives up his prize top prospects (one of the two things he can still point to along with Starting pitching as his successes) for more Ks less OBP and good chance he gets injured in August.

Re: A trade deadline plan
I see where Robert is catching heat for not throwing, didn't seen like a big deal to me. But it's like running out a grounder to the pitcher. I don't think trying to be cool is the issue, its the never give up always compete thing

CHICAGO -- After jogging lightly to first base on a ground ball back to the pitcher, White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr was pulled from the team's 12-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.
Re: A trade deadline plan
One thing in the plus column for Robert is that he hit 3 homeruns in 4 games at Seattle this season. Apparently the stadium/batter's eye/marine layer doesn't bother him too much.
(He was 3 for 12 with a walk, no other hits but the homeruns)

Re: A trade deadline plan
Figured you guys were getting tired of my what's wrong with T¬Mobile articles but here's another one. Robert doesn't walk enough but home runs are the way you are supposed to score. Pointed out the other day the lineup as a unit is three true outcome. I thought that was kind of wild, this guy from a year ago says it's the model. You don't want contact hitters as much because of how the ball dies. Interesting dipoto's lineup matching the model
I’m also inclined to think the park plays at least some role in Seattle’s efforts (or lack thereof) to lure quality free agent hitters to Seattle. And I suspect the club has recognized these same issues, and recognized that the “three true outcome” style hitters who walk, strikeout, or homer most frequently will ultimately have more success than most at their current home field.
https://www.lookoutlanding.com/2023/1/5 ... feco-fieldIt’s also important to consider for their current roster, and a good reason players like Eugenio Suárez and Cal Raleigh are well-suited to loft moonshots to success, whereas contact-heavy hitters with more line drives in their contact profile, while still obviously well-suited for success overall, may not be as successful as expected in Seattle
