Re: The slightly too early trade deadline thread
I wandered into strikeout records, the MLB record for strikeouts by a pitcher is 513 if you include pre 20th century. If you want to bother it's an interesting story

I think the luster is off of Hancock. He has a 4.26 ERA in AA as a 24 year old. He is far from ready and may never get there. He seems fragile. might be a candidate for the bullpen at some point.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 2:24 pmI honestly want to see them trade Woo so we can get Hancock up here.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 2:18 pmThey can have Trammell back too.....Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 2:17 pmPadres had the bases loaded nobody out in the top of the 10th inning last night with Bogaerts up and didn't score a run. Rockies walked them off with a bases loaded sac fly themselves. They just cannot get over the hump.
How I wouldn't mind a package for Soto centered around Woo and France and few prospects.
I don't think there'd be fall off and Hancock would head into '24 seemingly without an innings limit as he's gonna hit 150 or so innings this season.

What I think is every ML team these days handles their pitching the same way. They invest in it and protect it. Is there a team you know of that handles it differently?D-train wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 3:23 pmRun his arm into the ground. lol You must think Jerry has a PhD in physiology???Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 2:34 pmAnd what team is that? Emerson has been awesome the last 2 months other than 1 start. He gave up 9 in one game, and still has a 2.73 ERA since June 6Captain 97 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 3:33 pmI think the luster is off of Hancock. He has a 4.26 ERA in AA as a 24 year old. Other teams are idiots about it too. Classic example right here. In 2022 the Phillies limited Andrew Painter to 103 innings in 22 starts less than 5 innings per. Here is the result of them NOT running his arm into the ground.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 3:34 pmWhat I think is every ML team these days handles their pitching the same way. Look deeper into his starts.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 3:33 pmI think the luster is off of Hancock. He has a 4.26 ERA in AA as a 24 year old. He is far from ready and may never get there. 12 of his 19 starts he has allowed 1 run or less. In those starts he has a .90 ERA

In 14 of his 19 starts, he has allowed 3 runs or less. In those starts he has a 1.14 ERA.
That plays every day of the week.
The problem is that he has had 5 starts where he hasn't been able to make it past the 4th inning... in 3 of those starts he hasn't been able to make it through 2 innings and was shelled.
The question you have to ask is which starts represent the player more? The 14 where he was near untouchable? Or the weird starts where he couldn't make it past the 2nd inning?

Not every pitcher has 14 starts with a 1.14 ERA.
