They can have Trammell back too.....
I honestly want to see them trade Woo so we can get Hancock up here.

I don't think there'd be fall off and Hancock would head into '24 seemingly without an innings limit as he's gonna hit 150 or so innings this season.
I think the luster is off of Hancock. He has a 4.26 ERA in AA as a 24 year old. He is far from ready and may never get there. He seems fragile. might be a candidate for the bullpen at some point.
Hancock gave up 9 ER in a July start, we'll have to see.

Look deeper into his starts.

12 of his 19 starts he has allowed 1 run or less. In those starts he has a .90 ERA :!:

In 14 of his 19 starts, he has allowed 3 runs or less. In those starts he has a 1.14 ERA.

That plays every day of the week.

The problem is that he has had 5 starts where he hasn't been able to make it past the 4th inning... in 3 of those starts he hasn't been able to make it through 2 innings and was shelled.

The question you have to ask is which starts represent the player more? The 14 where he was near untouchable? Or the weird starts where he clearly can't make it past the 2nd inning?
Every pitcher looks great if you ignore their bad starts.
You have come to the forum today to make really blanket statements today it seems...

Not every pitcher has 14 starts with a 1.14 ERA.
Marco was our worst starter last year and he had 18 starts where he gave up 2 runs or less. Doesn't just mean we ignore the rest of the time when he sucked.

It’s not even ignoring his bad start. He’s at 2.73 over the last 2 months. Seems he’s figuring things out. Kirby has bad starts too, is Emerson not allowed to? He doesn’t need to be an ace, but if he could come in and have 75 % of his stats be solid starts, that’s valuable.

Bryce miller had a 6.4 ERA in the minors this year, he seems to be OK

Miller had some good peripherals though, like a K/BB ratio of 6.

No it doesn't.

But Marco did have a ton of quality starts last year which is a valued metric.

I personally would take starter A who every 4 out of 5 starts drops 1 earned run or less and then blows up on the 5th start versus starter B who allows 4 runs every start. You're winning far more games with starter A.

Which is why Emerson is 12 and 4.

I also don’t think it’sa coincidence that Emerson’s1 blowup start came after they passed him up to start for miller and Woo, then gave Milone the start over him. That has to be a bit deflating to not be given the chance at that time
