Capital appreciation will quadruple their investment at least.TraderGary wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2024 3:01 amThat's an interesting point I hadn't considered. But then, why buy the team in the first place if their investments are better served elsewhere? It obviously wasn't about civic pride because they don't have any.D-train wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 2:19 amI think they realize that investing in payroll will likely have a positive return but guessing that they think the ROI will be less than what they can get with their other investment opportunities outside of baseball. Not excusing it but I think it is a possible explanation. But if that is the case they should sell obviously.TraderGary wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 10:50 pm
Given our pitching staff, even a 3rd of that would put us over the top. I'll never understand how the owners can't comprehend the fact that if they were just to spend a reasonable amount (by today's standards) to improve the offense, they would more than make up for it with additional attendance, merchandise sales, revenue from the playoff games, and additional tv and advertising revenues. And as a bonus, Stanton wouldn't be the most hated man in Seattle. But instead, they're openly choosing to waste a generational pitching staff for everyone to see.
I just looked up Stanton's age. He's 68. I honestly thought he was around 10 years older than that and was hoping he'd be ready to ride off into the sunset in the near future. But at 68 and making more money than he'll ever know what to do with, it looks like we're stuck with him for the foreseeable future. I'm 71 and in good health, but I seriously doubt I'll see the M's in the WS before I die.

Question: what aren’t the M’s … or any MLB team … adopting a play now, pay later approach?
Really. We could get Soto on a $700MM deal. Two mil a year for 10 years and $680MM in 10 years.

The Dodgers are building a super team using deferred contracts. Why in the serious hell aren’t we????????????

According to Grok, Tik-Tok is the #5 social media platform in the US.D-train wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2024 5:39 amIt was the first one that came up. I didn't even notice.
X is 49th.
I don't really know what this means, other than there are bound to be meaningful links on any platform.

From Jude's Winter meetings article, I think this is more the reality of the situation
It’s possible — and perhaps even likely — that left fielder Randy Arozarena, acquired at the July trade deadline, stands as the most meaningful addition to the Mariners roster this year.
It’s also possible — and perhaps even likely — that the regular lineup Wilson employed late in the season could be the same lineup on opening day 2025, featuring Victor Robles at leadoff, Julio Rodriguez batting second, Cal Raleigh third and Arozarena fourth.
