So mariners pay the bulk of his salary, give up better prospects, and they still get him for their playoff run

Appears the Astros are gonna get Verlander again.
The other organizations in the AL West just want it more.

And the point is that there is something more than looking at a SSS. There's even depth considerations.Juliooooo wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 6:38 pmAnd the original argument started because someone mentioned Hancock ERA as the reason you shouldn’t be excited about him. Point is, there is much more that just simply looking at someone’s ERA, there’s more than looking at their K/BB ratio as well

It cracks me up when M's fans say the M's can't sign players for big money...
The Mets just traded off some $80 million that the Astros will now cover, ate some cash, and got the Stros no. 1 prospect back in the deal.
God we are a pathetic franchise.

Houston giving up Drew Gilbert is pretty surprising.

Mets also get Ryan Clifford back... 11th round pick last year who has put up OPS's over .900 at the A level. He was supposedly the hang up in the deal as the Astros didn't want to part with him.
The. Astros. Want. It. More.

Re: The slightly too early trade deadline thread
Wash, rinse repeat. Every team we compete against makes a concerted effort to get better, and we spew bullshit to the fans about needing money for three years form now to resign guys. Fuck this. I guess one playoff appearance in my son's lifetime is enough? I am left longing for the days when I was mad that the Yankees kicked our ass in the ALCS. Those were the days.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 6:45 pmAppears the Astros are gonna get Verlander again.

Per Morosi.
Re: The slightly too early trade deadline thread
Ok. It will never happen. I am just metaphysical navel gazing here. But in the next 3 hours, it seems like we could fleece the Mets.
The Mets seem to be in fire sale mode after an off-season of spending like a sailor on shore-leave. Scherzer and Verlander are gone and their starting rotation is in shambles. They could use a promising arm - and I’m not even taking about Gilbert here. They could use a Woo or a Miller.
What’s more, their position, players’ values are at an all time low. Jeff McNeil has a -0.9 value, and Francisco Lindor’s is -19.1
The Mets have a crap ton of middle infielders coming through the system in the next year or so, and they may want to continue to shed salary as they make their historic push for Ohtani in a few months.
For all of these reasons, we could swing a trade for some established bats. Too bad we can’t or won’t.
As a ridiculous example, we could get Lindor, McNeil, Alonso and Nimmo for the apparent price of a single Miller and still come out ahead. I know it’s just a silly example based on fictitious numbers, but still - what the serious fuck??? Come on, Trade Jerry!
