It's Morosi but at least it's fun.
I just saw that this morning. As ever, Castillo is listed as the player being sent to Cleveland. Would we give up 3 years of Castillo for one year of Naylor? Is this what we're reduced to? It's a salary dump, and the argument goes that it frees up money to get another starter and more offense. It's not a long term solution to 1B, and it seems like classic robbing Peter to pay Paul.
No. And Cleveland isn't taking on that salary.

It would almost assuredly be for prospects as that's how Cleveland operates.

I'm going to look at it this way, we get a 1 year audition to see if he can hit in T-Mobile before we have a chance to resign him, we can also give him a Qualifying Offer and get a draft pick back.

Personally I like the idea of an audition to see if giving him a long term contract is a good idea instead of signing someone who we think is going to be good yet comes here and absolutely bombs as a hitter.

Mariners claim Catcher Nick Raposo off waivers

Maybe its a precursor to a Cal Raleigh trade, I'm kidding......I hope.

Naylor put up 1.5 WAR and has put up 6 WAR in 6 seasons. Another Josh, Rojas put up 2.2 WAR as did Dylan Moore. Polanco put up 1.3 WAR. Turner put up 1.3 WAR in 48 games. Is Naylor really a guy they are setting sights on to improve the team????

One thing I've learned to look for with first basemen on WAR is if to see if they get killed by defensive metrics. Dick Allen (who started at third base) and Fred McGriff are great examples of players who you'd think would have had about 75 WAR careers but each lost over 15 points on defense, which isn't that big a deal for first basemen but makes them not look like the Hall Of Famers they are.

Naylor took a minus 1.5 hit in 2023, so in just looking at his offense he'd be a plus player. Pete Alonso takes significant defensive hits every year, and I'm pretty sure we'd all overlook that if our cheap-ass owners would sign him.
