5th round pick Austin Shenton has been raking in Everett. 3-5 today and a HR shy of the cycle. Due up 5th in the top of the 9th, so he may get a chance. Everett up 11-2, so probably won't go extras.

I'd hesitate before getting excited about an .840 OPS from a 1B in minor leagues.

His recent numbers have looked how a real MLB 1B should look, so let's hope he continues hitting.

If he ends with a cumulative .840 OPS this season, they need to keep looking for a 1B, imo.

We dont need another defense first 1B. They have to contribute at least average for a 1B offensively then the defense can be the added value.
He has had well over a 1.000 OPs Since June 1st. The hope is he can repeat that .840 OPS with great D in the Bigs in 2021.
There is a difference between being excited and being encouraged. I'm excited about Jrod, Kelenic, Fraley and Gilbert right now. I'm encouraged by Dunn, White, Newsome, Sheffield (his last 2 start in Arkansas), Raleigh and a few others. The first 4 I feel really good about their chances of contributing in the MLB right now, the others have shown signs that they may get there. I thought White might develop some power with time, but to have 11 HR at this point (after missing time with injury) his first year in AA in a pitchers park, that is more than I expected. Will he be a plus hitter in mlb? not sure, but if he can be an average hitting 1B, then his elite defense will make him valuable. 20-25 HR a year is plenty for a 1B if he's the best defender in baseball and hits for a good average.
That's a lot of ifs for White.

I'll stick with a great bat that might develop an average glove at 1B where defense matters as little as anywhere.

How many games have we lost from first base defense this season?

Positive for Justus again, the best bit was keeping it to just 1 walk and 2 hits in 7 innings.

Warren got himself in to some trouble with a pair of walks but got himself out of the jam and get the save which is encouraging to see too.

Gilbert with another good outing, the kid is really dealing at the moment.

Another guy who is doing some good things in Virginia is Clay Chandler, he has some great peripheral numbers is a power pitcher and has been consistent with his numbers since turning Pro in 2017. He is 25 already but quite an interesting article on the guy here. He's a battler and I love me a good battler.

No it wouldn't at all DT,you are reaching bud. Same country vs a totally different country. Ok I'll concede, West Virginia.

Good point. I exaggerated for effect but average income per capita in WV is $37k vs. $52k in Virginia. They are adjacent and share a name but that is where the similarities end. I now see Somalia vs. S. Africa is $225 vs. $12,300.

For some reason they seem to be locked into Shed at 2B. I would like to see both Lopes and Walton get a shot there.

Looking at Gilbert's great season, is there any reason why he can't be an Ace?
