I was listening on the radio and the female member of the broadcast team (Angie?) reacted by saying "Don't ever do that again Emerson" or something similar after Gary Hill implied he was trying to catch the ball with his bare hand. After watching the video I agree that was not his fault as the ball was hit right at his hand and he didn't have time to react.D-train wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2026 6:31 pmRidiculous take....Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2026 6:21 pmDumb fuck blocks a 107 mph batted ball with his pitching hand and now unable to pitch.

The team is disillusioned and downtrodden. How can their heads be in the right place when Refshyster is management's solution to lefties for half a season? And a few "Joes" you know, like Batman & Robin, Electra Woman and Dynagirl, etc. Refman and Joeman. Cuz that has been one of the most egregarious wastes of MLB plate appearances in my life! And now, the Mariners will enter the 2nd half with Cal and Mitch Zunino. And we have "Julio the Happy" whose best focus seems on chucking balls into the bleachers. I have less concern for our pitching. There would be less criticism of pitching but the offense is so horrible that there's nothing left to rag on except pitching, so we dissect every fucking pitch and I fucking hate doing that. I suggest a Bud Light kegger to kick off the second half, to loosen up the boys and get some dugout chatter goin on.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2026 2:04 pmI think they are most mentally weak team in baseball.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2026 5:19 amWhat caused it?Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2026 2:15 amMan, I didnt realize how bad it's been.
Since 6/12 (a full month) the M's are dead last in runs scored and position player WAR.
The Rockies have almost doubled the M's in runs scored since 6/12... 169 to 95. The Cubs have put up 7.4 WAR to the M's 0.2.
Easily one of the worst 30-day runs in Mariners history.
There's no leadership in the clubhouse. Like... why would anyone listen to Cal Raleigh when he's hitting .160? Why would anyone listen to JP Crawford when he can't throw a baseball across a diamond?
Then you have Julio always giggling around like a school girl. You have Naylor looking like he's sleep walking through the season.
The only guy who is performing is the guy the fan base wanted to crucify because he didn't go hard after a pop foul...
None of them make adjustments. Julio is exhibit A of that. None of them play with energy or focus (except Randy who ironically never played with energy or focus before this year). I mean Julio let what, 3x grounders to center by him in the first month? It's like they all just show up to the ballpark and anticipate a shift in outcome despite doing nothing ever to change it.
I mean look at Luke Raley... the guy looks like a first ballot HOF in April and has now fallen so bad mentally that the only way he can get a hit is to bunt against the shift. He looks petrified to swing the bat. Who, if anyone, is working with him to change that?
That is all mentals. They have nobody and nothing in that organization that unifies them towards a goal and shakes them from their fears. They all play so weak and afraid.

You mean like smiling, joking, tossing some balls in the bleachers? They got to be either too tight or too loose, got to be one or the other.I suggest a Bud Light kegger to kick off the second half, to loosen up the boys and get some dugout chatter goin on

I understand your point, but alcohol can be a catalyst one way or another, with a bunch of guys.*Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2026 3:54 pmYou mean like smiling, joking, tossing some balls in the bleachers? I'm speaking in context - focus on winning vs. PR

Is there beer in the clubhouse? ...Someone was talking about their first experiences as a NFL player, like years ago, cant remember who. They came in the locker room after the game, guys were lighting cigarettes and there was beer on ice, this isnt college! They even let you take beer home with you! lol
Re: Just don't suck game thread
There was a game a few weeks ago (I can't remember who it was against) where a catcher (that I think used to play with him in Cleveland) of the opposing team starting going off on Naylor and yelling insults at him, one of which was "Even your own teammates hate you". If this is really true, has he become a cancer in the Mariners clubhouse?Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2026 2:04 pmI think they are most mentally weak team in baseball.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2026 5:19 amWhat caused it?Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2026 2:15 amMan, I didnt realize how bad it's been.

I think Naylor is considered a good teammate, but hes also the guy thats going to piss off opposing players which is what happened there. Naylor plays with an attitude. Hes not Jrod joking around winning popularity contests. I think we need to decide what kind of players we want because they both seem to get criticized
Earlier this month, in a series in Detroit, he collided with Kevin McGonigle at first base and tossed his sliding glove at Dillon Dingler before plunging into home plate. Tigers pitcher Keider Montero later struck him with a 96 mph fastball, which Naylor said was intentional. That led Colt Keith to describe Naylor as: “You like him if you’re his teammate, and you hate him if you’re on the other team.”

There's a big difference between playing the way Naylor plays and playing with an attitude that drives winning.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2026 6:34 pmI think Naylor is considered a good teammate, but hes also the guy thats going to piss off opposing players which is what happened there. Naylor doesn't win at all costs. He instead plays like gnat on the opponents ass. He's an annoyance with a lazy disposition.
Winning = implied focus.
This team is seldom focused.

Good time to use wRC+.
Everyone under 100 is a below league average bat.
They've given almost a full season of a full time players worth of plate appearances (488) cumulatively, to Wisdom, Refsnyder, Masterboner, Rivas, Joe, and Garver.
Then, Naylor goes back to being an averageish player.
Cal Raleigh fell off the planet.
What a mess.
