I'm not even touching a hidden virus-laden colored Easter egg on Easter... much less going to the services I never go to...

This of course assume China isn't full of shit.
This a huge x-factor. So much reporting on what's supposedly happened in China is just data released by China, which absolutely can't be trusted.

21M/1.4B represents only 1.5% of their population, so it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is now over 100K cases. It took 8 days to increase ten fold from 9,452. If we see a million cases in another 10 days, I'd be writing off baseball this year.
This sucks. Without wide spread testing, quarantining of those that are sick and access to medical care for all the serious cases, a lot of people are going to die.
Baseball is just a side show to this main event.
I am still hoping for a football season.
Stay well, this is not a good time to depend on the health care system.

Would need to add almost 100k a day to do that. Not happening. Baseball will start in June.

the decision to begin baseball is not going to be based on the country in general, its going to be based on the situation in 30 different cities. Every one of them is going to have to have gotten the situation under control to the extent of feeling comfortable allowing mass gatherings again, today NYC is struggling with it, 1/3 of all cases are in NYC. I can't see NY going from the situation they are dealing now to allowing mass gatherings in two months, I really can't. Unless they come up with some radical approach, no fans, I really don't see how they pull it off

Los Angeles could be next
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Coronavirus cases in Los Angeles are spiking, putting the region on track to have as many cases as hard-hit New York in five days, Mayor Eric Garcetti said on Friday, speaking from a naval hospital ship in the Port of Los Angeles.

The number of cases in Los Angeles County soared by 50% on Thursday and another 20% by noon on Friday for a total of 1,465, Garcetti said at a news conference with Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom aboard the ship.

If the increases continue at Thursday’s rate, the county will meet New York City’s 25,398 cases in five days; if the cases increase by Friday’s rate it will take just a few more days to catch up to the hard-hit East Coast metropolis.

they have traced a significant number of east coast cases to a single meeting in Boston, the phenomena of ‘super-spreading’. You honestly see NYC going from having makeshift hospitals set up in convention centers today, to allowing mass gathering again in two months?
More than a century ago, Mary Mallon, a New York cook, was suspected of transmitting typhoid fever to 51 people, earning her the notorious nickname Typhoid Mary.

At the Biogen leadership meeting in Boston last month, a different kind of infection spread with lightning speed, leading to at least 99 coronavirus cases in Massachusetts and more around the world.

What do these cases have in common? They’re both classic examples of what epidemiologists call “super-spreading.” And the phenomenon has major implications for the way the current coronavirus pandemic is playing out.
