You believe Mariner management has a higher reputation around baseball for their desire to put a winning team on the field than the Rays? Are you serious?

That is all things considered. Playing baseball in a convention center with Astro turf in front a crowd smaller than a 2022 Little River Band casino concert vs. T Mobile park is likely an advantage for us.

Now this might be significant. Lowballing a guy that you just traded for to put up a .949 OPS to save $1.6M
Outfielder Jesse Winker, who the Reds traded to the Seattle Mariners last week, may go to an arbitration hearing with his new team. Winker filed at $7 million and the Mariners filed at $5.4
So when we go to extend him next season I wonder if he will be giving us a Hometown discount. Such an inane penny wise pound foolish move.

Rays are not competition for FAs in the first place. If they were their ability to win could very well trump their AstroTurf.

When it comes to "intangibles", I don't think astroturf, flying time or whatever would be more important than signing with a organization that has really shown a desire to win.

Yeah, I think the tigers beat out the Mariner management, the twins, certainly the rangers. You can see how their off season went, no blind alleys for them. Why was that, maybe because players don't mind the 100 loss season, or the stifling climate when it comes to playing for an organization they feel that is serious about trying to win .

But go ahead, let's defend mariner management.

Dude I just ripped M's management in literally the post just before this one. I just said we have a 1000% better place to play. Which is indisputable. Ask Kris Bryant how much he cares about winning. The Rockies traded off Arenado and let Story walk and won 60 games last season.

That's exactly what I mean about shifting attitudes around here. What you complain about I believe could be their biggest hurdle with FAs.

Be interesting to ask him, he very well could feel a better chance to win with the Rockies. It's hard for me to imagine the Rockies being considered to have less of a desire to win after signing Bryant and the marines do nothing.

I don't think last year's record means a thing, again, I don't think anybody would question the rangers desire to win no matter their record last season.

I would put Dayton Moore and the Royals above the mariners, what have the mariners ever done that trumps the royals?

Sure, in signing Kris Bryant, the Rockies are getting a player with a career fWAR of 31.8 and a career wRC+ of 134 — offense that the Rockies desperately need, especially given Trevor Story’s decision to sign with the Red Sox. But there’s more to it than that. When a team signs a player to a seven-year, $182 million contract, they’re looking for more than his on-field skills.

In addition to becoming the face of the Rockies, Bryant is a message to fans: It’s a new day, and the Rockies are trying to win
That there, when are the mariners going to do that? I think it might begin with convincing a quality offensive FA of it. Yeah, they might even have to over spend. Like the rangers going into the off season talking about a desire to spend and realizing they weren't in a position to ask for discounts. Looked at what they accomplished. Dipoto should be embarrassed

Good thread here:
This team doesn’t have IT......Which is hard to express

Doesn’t have the Paul Allen win it and enjoy the accolades

Doesn’t have the empathy to even be decent to players and family

And add in being cheap basterds and we are screwed....maybe Jerry does get a cut of profit sharing
