Not saying they shouldn't just predicting they won't. JD's first extension was regrettable. I figure he just sticks what he knows. Hitting the swap meet and yard sale circuit for washed up relievers.

btw Fraley has 13 HRs in only 73 games. That's close to 30 HR power.

Lewis 3-3 with a walks off double and a walk but still only one HR since May 1st. He hit 3 in about a dozen ABs in ST.

If they can't get an extension done they have to trade him at some point soon.

He's at a perfect age where a contract that buys out a couple years of free agency at 8 or 10 million makes sense for both sides.

I'd work hard to get a reasonable extension. If not, that's the circle of baseball life. Except the Mariners who just let contracts expire and get nothing.
I didn't realize he was already arb eligible with only two more years of control. He is making $2M this season. Guessing that jumps to $5MM next season. Still cheap so they probably just keep him and maybe trade him in about a year. Can't see them extending him with all the OFers in the system.
They need to. I dont see any other 30 home run outfielders anywhere in that bunch. If they're putting Sally White at 1B, they definitely need more pop from the corner outfield than Fraley.

Connor Kopach who we saw in Everett last season was hitting .247 with a .742 OPS in Modesto so they promoted him to Tacoma where his hitting .313/.889 That's baseball.

I'd offer 4 years 40 million.

Buys out his next 2 arb years, 2 free agent years. Gives Santanas family financial security with and the Mariners a low risk high reward contract.

I'd take 4/40 on a guy like Santana over another 200 million on trying to buy a free agent outfielder for the same production, or trying to rely on Jake Fraley and Mallex Smith to replace his production.

I think it would be a win for both sides. Santana is stacking up hits like Ichiro, except that his hits go out of the infield and put runs on the board.

I would be fine with that. I would also be learning him up on the fine art of 1B.
