Not saying they shouldn't just predicting they won't. JD's first extension was regrettable. I figure he just sticks what he knows. Hitting the swap meet and yard sale circuit for washed up relievers.
I'd offer 4 years 40 million.

Buys out his next 2 arb years, 2 free agent years. Gives Santanas family financial security with and the Mariners a low risk high reward contract.

I'd take 4/40 on a guy like Santana over another 200 million on trying to buy a free agent outfielder for the same production, or trying to rely on Jake Fraley and Mallex Smith to replace his production.

I think it would be a win for both sides. Santana is stacking up hits like Ichiro, except that his hits go out of the infield and put runs on the board.
I would be fine with that. I would also be learning him up on the fine art of 1B.
1B and corner outfield have been equal wastelands in recent years so wherever he sticks is fine by me.

I can think of worse things than a 1B/DH jobshare between Vogey and Santana.

However, until Mallex Smith can prove he's not the .600 OPS player he's become again, he's easily the odd man out in my outfield.

Totally agree on Smith. He does nothing for me just a younger Dyson or Aoki.

Cal Raleigh with two HRs tonight, hit one in a God Damn canal!

Delaplane with another 3 so in his 1.2 innings. That's 87 so in 47 innings and a 0.62 whip

Another under the radar pitcher is Devin Sweet who has a 1.14 whip and has 80 so in 64 IP.
Image

Relieving Sweet was Dayeison Arias who has a 0.89 whip and is a high strikeout reliever with a good ERA to boot

Gareth Morgan got another HR last night off of another two hits. That's 13HR in 23 games for his new team with a 991 OPS

Great report from Modesto.........

Really encouraging news about Cal. His bat is heating up, maybe even more than expected, but his defense improving is really a big deal. Pretty amazing stretch from the Modesto starters. 6 straight scoreless starts. In the California league!!!
