I swear man, some people think our contending team is literally going to be:

1B - Ty France
2B - Abe Toro
SS - JP Crawford
3B - Noelvi Marte
LF - Jarred Kelenic
CF - Kyle Lewis
RF - Julio Rodriguez
C - Cal Raleigh
DH - Taylor Trammel

B - Zach Deloach, Kaden Polcovich

SP

1. George Kirby
2. Logan Gilbert
3. Brandon Williamson
4. Emerson Hancock
5. Marco Gonzales

BP

Matt Brash
Juan Then
Connor Phillips
Levi Stoudt
Isaiah Campbell
Adam Macko
Andres Munoz

Question is, which current M's prospect do we convert to backup catcher since every top prospect we carry is going to be an All Star and not tradeable? Oh wait, I got it! Evan White!
Unfortunately I think one of the "some people" that you mention is JD. lol
Kinda disagree. Obviously I don't know what's going to happen any better than the rest of you, but DiPoto likes to make trades. It's kind of his thing and he seems to be pretty good at it.

You guys think there’s any chance the Royals would discuss Sal Perez in a trade?
No.
I don't follow them really, but it seems like they don't trade their players that much. Not a wheeler-dealer type team, but more about keeping what they have.
Exactly and he just signed a new deal and they had a pseudo Ceremony tantamount to the Inauguration of a new Pope. Zero chance they do that and the trade him months later.

Yes JD does like to make trades but has never been any of his key guys. Maybe that finally happens this off season but I will be surprised. He will sign guys and he will make trades but no blockbuster trades or top FAs. Just crap like lengthening the lineup and adding depth.

I might be okay with lengthening the lineup and adding depth. I just want smart moves and I'm skeptical about signing free agents to mega-deals. I'd rather watch for a team that's having second thoughts about paying player x for the next 8 years, and then see if there's a deal to be made.

Schwarber seems like he would make a lot of sense as a DH and occasional corner OF. I'm interested in Michael Taylor from KC as well, though I wouldn't go overboard on a contract. But Taylor is a top-3 defensive centerfielder, which would push JK to left, where he's probably a lot better.

3B is obviously a hole. I'm not sold on Toro, but JD might be. Toro scares me when he throws from second, so I'm not at all sure about that arm at third. And who knows if the bat will develop?

Players on playoff teams with a payroll salary of at least $18 million:

NL:

Cardinals - 3

Dodgers - 6

Braves - 1

Brewers - 1 (I'm counting Yelich because he signed a massive deal)

Giants - 5

AL:

Yankees - 2

Red Sox - 3

White Sox - 2

Astros - 4 (I'm counting Bregman because he also signed a massive deal)

Rays - 0

Unless we think we're as savvy as the Rays (we're not) paying for some big bats/arms doesn't seem to hurt the cause.

Okay, so we don't have to worry about being smart. Just spend a lot. Good to know.

I mean, yes and no.

Star player are star players. It just seems to me that the teams with higher payrolls are also the teams that win the most.

Build a good roster with many cheap, under years of control dudes, determine the players worth dropping $20-$30 million a year on, buy a couple of them, and go to work. Hate to say it and wish it wasn't the case, but it seems like expensive players bring wins more often than not.

Paying Cano $24 million a year didn't hurt the Mariners - if anything its helped them. Cano-led teams didn't have the foundation laid so it may have been a premature purchase, but we're certainly no worse off for it.

But you can exchange JK with Marte if you want it to be more realistic.
There is no way that Marte, Hancock and Toro brings back Ramirez. Your talking about a guy with an .825 OPS in A ball, A pitcher who threw about 10 innings before he had to be shut down with arm issues and a poor fielding infielder with a .657 career OPS over 3 partial seasons in the Bigs. Any conversation that doesn't involve J-Rod will get you no where in a Ramirez trade.
Based on this you wouldn't even need to add Toro or Hancock. Marte would almost be enough alone.

Some of their values seem to be a bit off, but this seems to be about an even trade, imo.

I've been around, mainly trying to steer clear of message boards. The M's are close now, so it seemed like a time to reappear.
