he is going to decide to trade prospects he doesn't want to trade for a player that plays a position he already has filled...makes sense to me
Exactly, and then have to pour a shit ton of money into them when they become a free agent, instead when you have a cheaper option in Ty France who is just as effective and will cost you a lot less. Focus those dollars you'd need to invest into Matt Olson towards Marcus Semien, Michael Conforto, Mark Canha, and Seiya Suzuki. Fill the holes on your team first and keep the prospects in our system.
yeah, that box is checked, they need a centerfielder, a second baseman, or 3rd. Dipoto has a success with France at first, frankly one of his few real successes, why would he mess with that? And don't tell me he could move France to another position, don't mess with success
Yeah, only way I would do it is for Olson but that isn't happening with the prospect hoarding M.O.

Castillo was 8-16 with a 3.98 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. Pretty meh. Maybe that's why JD is interested.
I think its his Post All Star performance that Dipoto is more interested in.
Is the inverse of Kikuchi. Interesting . Thanks.

I think its also about not being an organizational fit than just hoarding prospects. We have a first base solution with France, including a 1B prospect in White that still hasn't fully developed, but that's irrelevant and besides the point.

What is the point is that Seattle can fill most of their holes through free agency rather than acquire a player for a boat load of prospects that you already have filled. Hell, it'd probably take a package head lined by France just to trade for Olson anyways.

The reason you do the trade is because he's a team anchor.... less than half the teams in baseball have a .900 OPS slugging left hand swinger.... actually there was only 8 of them in baseball last year... 5 of them are totally tied up, that being Kyle Tucker, Bryce Harper, Joey Votto, Juan Soto, and Shoei Ohtani. Three MIGHT be available thru trade options but would require probably overpays and those three are Matt Olson, Bryan Reynolds, and Jose Ramirez.... All three are exceptional trade targets and would require exceptional trade packages and only a few teams might be able to supply the trade chips for these three rare, valuable trade targets..... One of those teams is the Mariners...

Personally I do the trade. No doubt in my mind. I've been banging the drum on him for awhile up until Jerry's latest Press Conference. But at this stage in free agency, I'm just trying to figure out who they actually have in mind if its not going to be Olson. Again, if it were up to me, I trade for Olson in a heartbeat.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CApcGmYDCwY If Olson goes to the Yankees on this deal, I'll have to quit Dipoto.... faster than Brokeback Mountain...

JD has unequivocally stated France is the 1B and he isn't trading top prospects so you can go ahead and quit him now.

I like Dipoto, but he should be more flexible. If Semien's price tag is about the same as Freeman, I'll take Freeman. Freeman is LHed and has the better hitting track record.

Totally needs to be more flexible. He has completely walled himself into a corner with all of his inane blabbing. I thought FF would have resigned with the Braves by now but maybe he decides to leave for more loot.

We have FOUR holes on this team that this team needs to fill this offseason:

-Middle Infielder
-Outfielder
-Starting Pitcher
-Starting Pitcher

If the M's can fill those four holes, this team will be competitive for the post season.
