Sounds like the Yankees are heavily involved. I doubt they get beat out by Seattle twice. C'mon Jerry. If you pull this off, this offseason will totally redeem every stupid move you've ever made!

And I could see the Phillies becoming a "very good fit" as a trade partner for starting pitching.

Dec. 2: Here are Phillies’ rotation plans after Eflin’s departure
The Phillies had two rotation spots open up when Noah Syndergaard and Zach Eflin reached free agency last month, and we now know that Eflin won’t be back after he reportedly reached a three-year deal with the Rays.

However, Philadelphia is not expected to be a player at the top of the starting-pitching market this offseason, a source told MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki. The Phillies are planning to hold a rotation spot open for one of their young arms, and the other one could be filled by a mid-level free agent.

“The Phils believe their resources are better spent signing an elite free agent shortstop like Trea Turner, and instead finding a solid middle-of-the-rotation starter to slot behind [Zack] Wheeler, [Aaron] Nola and [Ranger] Suárez,” Zolecki writes.

I love the "High Roller" mentailty bpj, but it would cost $40M a year for 9-10 years just to get Judge to pass on pinstripes. Could you imagine Judge at 39 years old making $40M?! No thank you sir. Would rather go after Ohtani next year.

Ace-Ohtani
P-Kirby
P-Castillo
P-Gilbert
P-Ray

I do however like Nimmo, but then we'd be out on Ohtani next season. No my preferred choice is Michael Conforto, and then another impact (1B/DH/OF) type hitter. I'd be happy with Michael Brantley, Andrew Benintendi, Mitch Haniger, Josh Bell, or even Jurickson Profar.

I could see NY, SF, and even the Rangers doing something crazy like that for Judge. However, Jerry doesn't have the balls, nor does Stanton to pull something like that off. But if we do go big, then go after the BIGGEST fish and go get Shohei!
No reason why we can't be on Ohtani if we sign Nimmo. Teo will be gone and we STILL prob won't have a DH.
Good point. I don't know that I like Nimmo over Teoscar though. Although he does have him on age.

I'm hoping for Conforto and Profar. Then get P Senga.

I'd only trade Flexen "IF" the compensation was worth the squeeze. Otherwise, I'm more than ok with going into ST and him still on our squad for depth.

I love Marco Gonzales, and the mentality of what he's brought to this organization. Unfortunately it's a business. And with him only pumping 89 MPH fastballs up there isn't going to cut it. I'd be willing to take just about anything to offload his contract.
Nimmo was almost twice as valuable as Teo last season with 5.0 WAR vs. 2.8. Even if he loses some by playing in a Corner vs. CF, he is the better player AND he is used to playing in a terrible park for hitters. Beyond perfect fit that Jerry will ignore most likely.

One year of Gold Glove winner Ian Happ, the Cub who posted 3.5 fWAR this year, would cost less than three years of Bryan Reynolds, the Pirate who posted 2.9 fWAR this year.

https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/tra ... de-111624/

Jerry Dipoto has probably made calls on the switch-hitting NL Central outfielders born five months apart.
Yeah, Happ would definitely cost much less, probably next to nothing. Because he's nowhere near the player Nimmo or Reynolds are.

Take Happ out of Chicago and he's an average player. Probably not even that with T-Mobile as his home park. Numbers here-

https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx? ... &sort=26,d

As far as I'm concerned there are only 3 viable options that are obvious upgrades in the OF (that are actually available)- Judge, Nimmo or Reynolds.

Anyone else we might as well roll the dice on a Trammell/Haggerty platoon.
What kind of contract would it take to land Nimmo, I was thinking somewhere in the area of 6 years, 150 million. Give him that extra year. Don't think many teams are gonna wanna go 6 years on him. Maybe push it to 160. Now if you could pair him with Senga & god forbid Josh Bell my offseason would be set.
Mine too! I have seen projections as low as 5 x $20M but guessing it will be closer to your prediction if we actually want him...

Never say never. Buuuuuuut.......

Per the Seattle Times, Reynolds is not likely to be traded. It sounds like Pirates management is being snitty - they feel he should be kept around wasting the prime years of an excellent player by a team who refuses to build around him. I mean I guess it's their prerogative; they own his contract. But after Reynolds went on record as saying he wanted to be traded, the Pirates - likely responding to blowback around their public comments that they would not trade him - are apparently "listening to offers". But - and herein lies the rub - their apparent asking price is ridonkulous.

"The news that Pirates All-Star outfielder Bryan Reynolds requested to be traded certainly captured the attention of Dipoto and Hollander. They’ve coveted Reynolds even before he broke into the big leagues. But multiple calls to Pittsburgh over the past few years have only yielded trade-return requests that have bordered on illogical.

Will the Mariners find a match this time? There are reports already surfacing that the Pirates asking price for Reynolds is much too steep and he won’t be traded."

I saw that - good link, Sexy.

My take on this is that Reynolds asked for a going rate for a player of his caliber. The notoriously stingy Pirates refused, so he asked to be traded. The Pirates, not wanting to give up a star player - nor spend the money to retain him AND get pricey pieces to build around him - refused. There was a social media revolt, so the Pirates changed their tact: now they are open to offers, but unless a team will give up the farm (literally), no offer will be good enough. They get to save face. And, either Reynolds stays and they keep their star, or they engage in a lopsided trade that brings in a crap ton of talent. Either way they win.

If you want a chuckle, read these Fansided Reynolds trade proposals:

Boras has almost all the LH OFers:
Boras’ free agents include Correa, Bogaerts, Carlos Rodón, Brandon Nimmo, Cody Bellinger, Michael Conforto, Taijuan Walker and Josh Bell,

This is kind of ridiculous. Haggerty was born in Phoenix. Mancini was born in Florida, Fletcher was born in Orange County, Sullivan was born in Stockton, DeLuzio was born in St. Louis, Mastrabouni was born in California, Lopez was born in Illinois, Pallante was born in California, and Pasquantino was born in Virginia. I'd be willing to bet they couldn't string together a coherent conversation in Italian between the lot of them. Maybe I could see if I could get a tryout for team Germany since I have German heritage.

The stand I'm going to take, at least for the moment, is that they should mostly stay out of the Reynolds trade talks. I think the brain trust should be pursuing two more bats using Marco, Flex, and Diego as the primary chips, and maybe Ty France, though that would add another hole that needs to be filled. Now, if the Reynolds trade talks progress to the point where it looks like the player will actually move to another team, then maybe the Mariners jump back in. But honestly, I'm just not sure I want to give up all that talent for a an above average corner outfielder. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but that's my take right now.

With regard to Marco and Flex, and maybe Diego Castillo as well, there are a lot of teams they could be talking to. Taking just a quick look at rosters, some of those teams are Detroit, Baltimore, Boston, KC, Arizona, St. Louis, and San Francisco. Honestly, I don't think they'll have any trouble finding buyers for Mariners pitchers.
