Any body notice the knob on his bat this year. It's massive almost like some sort of counter weight. I don't think he had that last year did he?
He talked about it during his interview at spring training. New this year
Pretty weird looking! I noticed one of the Cubs players was using it also.

Whatever works!

I can't tell if it's some sort of counterweight or what...

Description of "Puck knob" bat from Marucci bat company:

"Puck knobs counterbalance the weight of the barrel by moving the balance point closer to the batter’s hands. This extended knob adds about 1" to the bat and is a great option for batters looking for increased bat speed"

If JK is real the top of the lineup would have a lot better balance:

1. Julio R OF
2. JK L OF
3. France R 1B
4. Cal SH C
5. Saurez R 3B
6. Teo R OF/DH
7. 2B Moore R// Wong L
8. DH/OF best of matchups between AJ R /TT L/Murphy R
9. JP SS L

I think when TT and Moore are ready
the 1st to go is Cooper Hummel
next is a coin flip between
La Stella and Haggerty

Bizarre replies that think that starting him vs. a lefty isn't a big deal but moving him up in the order will shatter his fragile psyche. It is the exact opposite!

So, at age 45 Jarred is going to look like he's in his sixties? Must have been a rough 22 years.

Pleased the lad is showing some tremendous form. However, a legendary soccer manager coined a phrase that “form is temporary but class is permanent”. It’s still too early to say if he is a class act yet. I hope he is, but enough evidence exists that he isn’t.
Seems a bit harsh, the evidence points to him not having class? Class more or less equates to style? His style is emotional?
Yeah, I think he was his own worst enemy. I preach to the kids I coach that you HAVE to be confident. Imagine taking a test in school and getting 30%. Great big fat collasol failure. .300 is the effing Hall of Fame in baseball. You have to be able to handle failure and still maintain confidence. I think JK was a bit over board in his early days. I am not going to pretend to have broken down his swing with slow mo camera, but I sure never thought his biggest problem was baseball skill. It was all mental.

It's absolutely a counterweight. I think it was Rosenthal for the Athletic who did a feature on the new "hockey puck" knob bats that players were having custom-fitted to their swings at the beginning of 2022. Look for it. Paul Goldschmidt and Matt Carpenter were two of the players highlighted in the story who were adamant about these new bats. The bat is designed to re-distribute the weight better while being optimized to the players' swing. New tech for sure and each player that I've seen that has switched is setting new career PRs
