Re: A's done in Oakland
I think Oakland probably isn't the nicest place in the world.
But that has nothing to do with why Oakland moved.
Vegas isn't really that nice of place either. Nor are almost all of the major cities that baseball stadiums exist in.
Seems an odd measure.
And if we're gonna talk about where T-Mobile is... homelessness in Pioneer Square was horrific for many years until recently. They've cleared the bulk of it out.
The worst part about attending M's games now is having to listen to the asshole with the megaphone tell us about how we're all going to hell. Or how much $$ parking is.

I remember in years past, when the cities were in pretty good shape, visiting players would spend their off hours walking through the downtown core.bpj wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 7:00 pmI haven't been to Seattle in years for exactly that reason, but I'm very much looking forward to going to games in Las Vegas, even if the Mariners aren't playing.
I wouldn't set foot in Oakland in 2024.
Seattle is becoming a lib dump.
A city should have to earn their team.
Oakland hasn't.
And Seattle is failing. But at least most of Seattle is still a beautiful city, for now, unlike Oakland.
I can’t imagine I’d want my players dodging drive-by shootings now.
As for Seattle, I worked downtown for 19 years, until I was transferred to the corrections office in West Seattle in 2010.
Downtown Seattle used to be a beautiful place to work.
I occasionally took off work early to attend the Wednesday afternoon games.
Then came 2020.
Damn shame.

I was stunned at how far Foxboro is from Boston. Well over an hour Drive. And it is only 10 miles from Rhode Island.gil wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 4:27 amOakland isn't really a free standing city; to me it's clearly part of a metropolitan area that includes San Francisco and San Jose. Lots of places have a stadium that is not in "the city". E.g., Foxboro Mass, or East Rutherford New Jersey. But other than the Oakland Raiders, Oakland As, Anaheim Angels, or San Jose Sharks, it seems that the "brand" goes to the big city - unless it's the region (e.g., Minnesota Twins or New England Patriots).bpj wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 9:29 pmOakland was a dump when I went, but that was years ago. Maybe it's gotten better...
Can any of you tell us what's so great about the city that they deserve an MLB team over other places? Is it just history?
If anyone's going to make a list of 100 great US cities that would be a good home for an MLB team in 2024, I don't think anybody is going to include Oakland. Much less the Top 30.

So b/c an Inn N Out closed down in Oakland and a woman decided to be interviewed on PragerU (yeah, totally not politically motivatedbpj wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 12:04 pmLol.

I haven't seen a single quote or article pointing to crime as a reason for them leaving Oakland.
Seems purely financial.

I'm sure the A's are leaving for reasons beyond Oakland being a shithole.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 6:46 pmSo b/c an Inn N Out closed down in Oakland and a woman decided to be interviewed on PragerU (yeah, totally not politically motivatedbpj wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 12:04 pmLol.

In-out-burger didn't leave Oakland, they closed a location. There's other branches there. The one they closed was next to the airport. There were car break-ins, think it's a problem there at the airport.
