JK turned 20 a week ago. My guess is he just finished out in Modesto and then AFL and then starts next season in AA.

How do they determine who goes to the AFL?

Top prospects. Totally up to the teams. Usually its 4-5 players per team

Send Kelenic, Raleigh, Dunn, Gilbert, McClain.

wonder how the rosters are selected exactly, they call it a draft. There is a 30 player roster made up of five ML teams, each team supplies six players, but it has to be coordinated, they can't all just decide what players to send, it wouldn't be a coherent roster

Interesting. I wonder if each team takes turns picking a player, and once a position is filled, it's filled. Maybe it's some kind of silent auction.

Edit: found this. Maybe Mariners promote Kelenic just to make him a "AA prospect" for fall league if they have another guy they want to send that is a lower level prospect
Each August, Major League clubs hold a position draft to determine the players who will go to Arizona. Most are Double-A and Triple-A Minor League players. Each club can opt to send one player considered a Class A player.

they dropped those rules this season it seems, see who is running the league now, Bill

The other main change to the operating procedures for the league is the removal of restrictions for players who are eligible to be sent to the AFL by MLB clubs. In the past, the league was mostly limited to Double- and Triple-A players, with one player below Double-A allowed per Major League team. One foreign player was allowed per team, and no players with more than one year of credited Major League service as of Aug. 31 were eligible (recent Rule 5 selections were the exception). There were even rules about how long players needed to be off the Minor League injured list before the end of their season to be eligible. All of these restrictions have been lifted, at least for 2019, as these changes will be reviewed after this season has concluded.
"The lifting of restrictions, the general managers approved it, but conditionally. Let's try it this year and then evaluate at the end of the year," Bavasi said. "That might have an interesting result. The position players will still be strong, but it might lift the pitching a little bit. It could be a way to get the pitching a little bit better."

Ok only six teams, I was think 8. I was trying to figure how they could put 8 teams together with only 4-5 players per team.

I actually think Mariners had 8 players the last 2 years. I wouldn't mind seeing Lewis get another crack at AFL, if that's allowed.
