M's should just Sign Nimmo and Bell putting payroll about at 2018 non inflation adjusted level and be done with the off season.

Sounds like the Yankees are heavily involved. I doubt they get beat out by Seattle twice. C'mon Jerry. If you pull this off, this offseason will totally redeem every stupid move you've ever made!

And I could see the Phillies becoming a "very good fit" as a trade partner for starting pitching.

Dec. 2: Here are Phillies’ rotation plans after Eflin’s departure
The Phillies had two rotation spots open up when Noah Syndergaard and Zach Eflin reached free agency last month, and we now know that Eflin won’t be back after he reportedly reached a three-year deal with the Rays.

However, Philadelphia is not expected to be a player at the top of the starting-pitching market this offseason, a source told MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki. The Phillies are planning to hold a rotation spot open for one of their young arms, and the other one could be filled by a mid-level free agent.

“The Phils believe their resources are better spent signing an elite free agent shortstop like Trea Turner, and instead finding a solid middle-of-the-rotation starter to slot behind [Zack] Wheeler, [Aaron] Nola and [Ranger] Suárez,” Zolecki writes.
I don't see how the Yankees could be a player without trading Volpe. But why would the Pirates need a SS or 3B when they've got O'neill Cruz and Kebryan Hayes? Why would the Yankees trade Volpe when they need young infielders and have indicated that Volpe will start at SS in '23?

The Pirates pitching staff is absolutely horrific and so is their farm system pitching depth. Any trade for Reynolds has to come with an OF replacement and significant pitching in return.

The Pirates have indicated that their goal is to contend within the next 3 years. Jasson Dominguez doesn't fit that window... he's only 19. I suppose Everson Pereira would fit in a trade as a Reynolds replacement... but the Yankees have no young MLB-ready OFers to trade and virtually nothing to offer from a young pitching standpoint... so they would have to trade from their staff. The only starting pitcher in their entire organization who has value right now is Nestor Cortez. But do the Pirates want a guy who isn't a power pitcher and has only proven it for 1 year + doesn't have much a pedigree? Do the Yankees want to trade from their staff? I doubt it.

I don't see the fit at all.

Great article from The Athletic on how and the Pirates should trade Reynolds

https://theathletic.com/3965296/2022/12 ... sts-trade/
I saw that - good link, Sexy.

My take on this is that Reynolds asked for a going rate for a player of his caliber. The notoriously stingy Pirates refused, so he asked to be traded. The Pirates, not wanting to give up a star player - nor spend the money to retain him AND get pricey pieces to build around him - refused. There was a social media revolt, so the Pirates changed their tact: now they are open to offers, but unless a team will give up the farm (literally), no offer will be good enough. They get to save face. And, either Reynolds stays and they keep their star, or they engage in a lopsided trade that brings in a crap ton of talent. Either way they win.

If you want a chuckle, read these Fansided Reynolds trade proposals:

Great analogy. I could easily see that playing out just like you said.

And Sodo are a bunch of dipshits that create Trade scenarios by inserting them into a shotgun and pulling the trigger...."and this could be a potential trade happening." They throw so many darts at the wall that they are bound to hit on something eventually. And once a Mariners rumor makes headlines, they are usually the first ones to comment on such a topic.

I will give them this though. They are a tenacious bunch.

I would throw Senga in the mix as well. Not sure what the latest news is on him

Hilarious thing about those ALL those trades is they aren't 3 team deals. The are two just two separate trades. We are only sending prospects to the Pirates and getting Reynolds the other team is doing a straight trade with the Pirates for Bednar. They think that because they have 3 teams in on the same page its a 3 team deal. "Dipshits" is being too kind.

Not sure where to put this, but this thread seems like the best fit. Mike Salk (from Brock and Salk on Seattle Sports radio) breaks down the OF landscape for the Mariners. There isn't anything terribly new here, and he doesn't get into metrics like you all do, but it does put all of the chatter in one place, and he briefly discusses 10 OF options the M's have.

I still remain cautiously optimistic that Jerry can swing a trade for Reynolds. I know, I know, the Pirates have basically said they won't trade him, and the asking price would be ridiculously high if they do trade him, but I think he's the perfect fit (likely even better than Judge, all things considered - including the contract Judge is likely going to get).

Hell, if JD can get Reynolds and Senga, I'd be tempted to take a week off work and go to spring training for the first time in my life. That would be a team I could get behind in a big way.

Anthony Santander or Austin Hays would fit the bill for a corner outfielder. Both are solid players, but not the type you build around. Santander has two years of control, Hays has three. Both seem like they should be gettable.

Not sure how you can be when Jerry literally said verbatim they want a RH platoon bat.
