Where do we stand on Kelenic?
Re: Where do we stand on Kelenic?
Fann discusses a new contract for JK. He doesn't seem like he would accept one at this point. He already refused one. Seems he would wait until FA.
They say the need to save to extend the core but why would those guys not just wait for FA like all the SSs did the past two years?

Re: Where do we stand on Kelenic?
JK has had 120 ABS between ST and Reg season with Season>ST of over 1.000 OPS.
I say if he keeps it up through the end of APril, the Lineup looks something like
1. CF Julio
2. OF JK*
3. 1B TY
4. 3B Saurez
5. DH Teo
6. C Cal**
7. OF TT*/AJ
8. Wong/DM/Sam/ Jose C
9. SS JP*

I am sure they are afraid to move him up because he slumps they would have to take the blame. This FO is all about risk aversion and CYA.Pharmabro wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 6:29 amJK has had 120 ABS between ST and Reg season with Season>ST of over 1.000 OPS.

Re: Where do we stand on Kelenic?
Would you guys just leave Kelenic in the lineup the fuck alone!?! Good God! Y'all sound like a bunch whiny nags! Let this kid destroy some baseballs and give us some goddamned thump that we desperately need at the bottom of the lineup. Who the fuck cares when we move him up!? I'm more concerned about the rest of the order! Geesh!!! There's a saying we have down here in Texas, "If ain't broke, don't fix it!" Leave the kid be.
Still love u boys! Let's kick Phillies ass!

Kinda interesting look at what is fueling kelenic's breakout, and if it's sustainable.
Interesting SS predicting JK doing damage to center field and there it is

https://www.mlb.com/news/jarred-kelenic ... r-marinersKelenic is slugging .950 to straightaway center, making him one of the most dangerous hitters in the league in the middle third of the field. He has five extra-base hits to center -- two doubles and three homers. Only J.D. Martinez and Matt Olson have more.
Highest SLG to straightaway center, 2023
Min. 20 balls hit straightaway
1. Olson: 1.095
2. Kelenic: .950
3. Tyler O'Neill: .750
4. Ronald Acuña Jr.: .727
5. Freddie Freeman: .667
That's a key indicator that Kelenic's new-look swing, which the Mariners have made so much of, is working. In Spring Training, manager Scott Servais said: "You are going to see more balls in the middle of the field." Well, now the numbers are there.

Re: Where do we stand on Kelenic?
Maybe Jarred will get invited to the home run Derby and fuck up his wrists trying to impress a national audience on his home field with 450+ ft HRs and then play like shit the rest of the season. Hopefully no Mariner gets invited but that would mean they aren't hitting many HRs so it's a lose-lose type of situation.
