That had to be the most unlucky loss in Mariner history right there. Six home runs that didn't count.

Isn't it the worst team composition imaginable for our park? We build our philosophy on the homerun ball in a pitcher's park? We should have at least 3-4 sluggers in the lineup doing that, but the approach for the rest of our team composition should be more obp/speed/avg, and less Teoscar Hernandez type approaches up and down the whole goddamn lineup.
I think it's a great advantage to have a pitcher's park and our talent in developing pitching. But the mindset in constructing our lineup is backasswards...

Then they will probably go out and trade guys like Gabriel Gonzales and Michael Arroyo for a bat that strikes out a ton.Muri wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 8:59 amIsn't it the worst team composition imaginable for our park? The best offense the M's ever had at SafeCo/T-Mobile had a .360 OBP, .288 BA and finished 17th in homeruns, some 40 homers behind the top-10 in the league.Muri wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 8:59 amIsn't it the worst team composition imaginable for our park? The team was filled with guys with great contact rates. Only one player who appeared in 80 games or more had a batting average below .259.
The all-or-nothing offense Dipoto has built it pretty fucking dumb considering that if they were to score 5 or so runs a game, they'd win 70% of em. Instead, 2 of every 5 games they manage 2-4 hits and aren't competitive.
I agree with ya.

Is it roster construction or just the way the game is played now? Power hitters get paid, so everyone wants to be a power hitter.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 2:40 pmThe best offense the M's ever had at SafeCo/T-Mobile had a .360 OBP, .288 BA and finished 17th in homeruns, some 40 homers behind the top-10 in the league.Muri wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 8:59 amIsn't it the worst team composition imaginable for our park? Dipoto seems to stress bat to ball skills but the last interview all he talked about was isolated power.
