It's not like the three J's aren't aware. I hope I'm wrong but my gut tells me they are going to cross their fingers and wait until the trade deadline again. I think that's a huge risk. Makes you wonder what Naylor is thinking about now.
It is exactly what they are going to do. It is the safe play and leaves them an out.

1. The young kids? They tell us "see, we told you they just needed time".
2. The young kids don't hit, they go for it at the deadline and best case we have what we had last year and the team catches fire.
3. They can't get the bat they need at the deadline? They couldn't find a suitable trade partner.
4. They get the bats they want and it doesn't work out? See? There is no magic pill and we should be happy that we are always in contention.

They had the lead in the 7th inning of game 7 to go to the WS, and going for it at the deadline and not during the off season saved them money. Of course they will run it back. They say all the right things to make us believe they might try to field an actual penant contending lineup in March, but they never will because they are so in love with their Farm. I think these dickheads actually think that contending with home grown talent is better than winning a ring like the Rangers and Dodgers did. And Hell, of them it is better because it costs them far less.

I guess this team hasn't turned enough of a profit in the last Decade plus to afford to spend.

Rangers get Mackenzie Gore for a bunch of AAAA players.

Basically a worse package than Carlos Jiminez, Tai Peete, Logan Evans, Luis Suisbel, and Brock Roden...

Why does Texas get deals done like this but we can't?

From what I'm looking at, he'll be someone new for the Rangers that we can beat up on. He's a little above-average at best.

M's just agreed on terms with a 13 yo. Not joking.. The kid was born during the Hawks Super Bowl winning season.

Former top prospect rounded into form the last 2x seasons with FIPS in the mid 3's and hitting his prime... fastball from the left side touches 98. 3 WAR each of the last 2 seasons while playing on awful Nationals teams.

Rangers got a potential no. 1 or 2 for a bunch of scrap for the next 2 seasons.

Why the M's wouldn't up the offer on a trade like this and then offload Castillo's $$ is beyond me.

Where in the heck do you get that they traded scrap? Fien was last year's #1 pick and 12th overall which is about where all the draft experts thought he would fall. The Rangers are gambling on Gore, is he the all star that he was in the 1st half of last year or the 2nd half injured bozo who was 1-7 6.75 ERA?

Dane Dunning is fine to stash in Tacoma. Chances are good he stays there the entire season and never sees the major league roster.

From a trade grade article, I think that's the story of the trade.
Maybe one or two of these prospects work out for the Nats, which would be nice. Fien was the No. 12 pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, so he could be a future star. Who knows? None of these are blue chip prospects, but it goes beyond this: It feels like the Nats are stuck in a hamster wheel with their young talent. When you trade for Gore while dealing Soto, you hope that he becomes an ace. Instead, you end up dealing Gore for MORE prospects. The rebuild never ends!
