You know Donn, you trying to tell the more knowledgeable forum members how baseball works is like the towel boy telling Tom Brady what play he should run. Why do they even have an analytics Dept.????Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 3:05 amDylan Moore now has 6 extra base hits off right handed pitching in 84 plate appearances... they sit him against righty starters.
Mitch Garver and Donovan Solano have a combined 2 extra base hits off left handed pitchers in 109 plate appearances and they PLATOON AGAINST LEFTIES.

Where am I telling anyone how baseball works, posters wonder why a players splits don't match how the mariners platoon them, that would be a reasonDavidGee24 wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 8:18 pmYou know Donn, you trying to tell the more knowledgeable forum members how baseball works is like the towel boy telling Tom Brady what play he should run. That's how we end up with bums pinch hitting for guys who have a chance to hit the ball.
Their analytics department is ass. Was obvious as soon as they hired the loser Dave Cameron.
I'm thinking it could be more, rule of thumb, than even looking at numbers, that a hitter generally has a harder time hitting against a same handed pitcher, I'd be curious to ask them

Im talking relative, I'd rather Taveras as my center fielder thanDavidGee24 wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 4:47 pmYou might want to look at his stat sheet, he's ass. OPS of .572, 2/20 BB/K ratio, minus 0.1 WAR. His career arc doesn't look promising either. He's a guy the team wins in spite of, not because of.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 2:48 pmYou look at the players teams have been adding, the angels, Red Sox, taveras isn't that bad. Didn't the Angels have a shot at him before the mariners? The mariners paid money for him, doubt he's going anywhere though I guess that depends on what happens when everyone is healthy
Chris Taylor, or there's first baseman Ryan Noda who the Red Sox just traded for, he was hitting .148 in AAA Worcester.

So you spend millions on an Analytics Dept and ignore the data and revert to a 1950s rule of thumb up your ass methodology. Brilliant!Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu May 29, 2025 6:10 ambpj wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 3:23 pmNo, instead they rely on numbers from a players career, or the last few years, instead of the current reality.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 2:58 pm
